Yunqi Capital | Green Voltis Closes New Funding Round: How AI-Native Technology Drives the Energy Transition

云启资本·August 6, 2025

The New Narrative of AI + Energy

Recently, GreenVoltis, a Yunqi Capital angel-round portfolio company and Europe's leading AI virtual power plant (VPP) enterprise, announced the successful completion of a new multi-million dollar funding round, with exclusive investment from Minyin International. The capital will accelerate innovation and upgrades to the company's core technology platform, while solidifying its leading position in Europe's VPP sector and supporting the continent's transition toward a sustainable energy structure.

Yunqi Capital has consistently focused on investing in high-tech innovators that drive industry progress, and participated in GreenVoltis's angel round in 2024. This edition of "Yunqi Partners" brings you the details of this new funding round.

The following content is adapted from GreenVoltis.

GreenVoltis is an AI-native VPP aggregator focused on the European market, leveraging AI-native technology to participate in electricity spot trading and grid ancillary services. The company provides intelligent, efficient flexibility trading and operations solutions for power market participants including energy storage and new energy asset owners, commercial and industrial customers, and electricity sales agents. Additionally, GreenVoltis assists its deeply partnered infrastructure investment funds with European project development and asset investment.

Previously, in July last year, the company completed an angel round led by CCV (Chuangshi Huoban), with participation from Yunqi Capital and Unity Ventures. Completing two consecutive funding rounds in a short period — with investors spanning top-tier financial institutions — fully demonstrates market confidence in Europe's energy transition, as well as strong recognition of GreenVoltis's core technical capabilities and industry-leading position in the European VPP space.

At the recently concluded McKinsey & Company · GBB Green Business Building Summit 2025 (GBB25), GreenVoltis showcased its latest technology platform and product strategy, becoming one of the summit's highlights. The company officially launched two flagship products:

  • Aether Platform: Built on an AI-native architecture, it helps new energy power stations achieve comprehensive optimization of operational efficiency and returns through multi-market trading strategies.

  • Terra AI Modeling Tool: Provides intelligent financial modeling support for asset investment owners, optimizing investment decisions. Through these innovations, GreenVoltis is reshaping Europe's energy landscape — from underlying technical architecture to business model upgrades — demonstrating the company's confidence in energy storage technology innovation and the substantial future returns of renewable energy assets.

Currently, Europe's energy structure is accelerating its shift toward renewable energy. The intermittency and instability of these sources demand more flexible grid management approaches. Meanwhile, European countries maintain strong environmental consciousness, with policies actively promoting green energy adoption; the closure of nuclear plants and reduced reliance on fossil fuels further increases demand for renewables. Compounding this, spot market price volatility in Europe continues to grow, with electricity retailers rapidly shifting from dependence on long-term purchase agreements toward spot trading.

GreenVoltis co-founder Ali Shi (Yaohong Shi) explained that while frequency regulation revenues remain highly attractive in certain European regions today, the future value created by energy storage will lie in real-time multi-market optimization across frequency regulation, capacity, balancing, and other ancillary service markets alongside spot trading markets.

From the outset of its European operations, the team has built its solutions on an AI-native platform architecture with real-time multi-market optimization as the core objective. "Compared to frequency regulation-focused ancillary service operations, multi-market optimization is what truly realizes 'Energy + AI' at its core," Shi noted. "So compared to frequency regulation VPP aggregators, our team's industry expertise and technical iteration capabilities can bring significant improvements to VPP operational efficiency and returns."

GreenVoltis's core team comprises top talent from Europe and China, with members bringing extensive experience in energy trading and algorithm development, backed by credentials from internationally leading technology companies. The team possesses deep familiarity with European countries' power market access standards and trading rules, combining years of hands-on experience in overseas energy markets to build globally-oriented solutions.
