How done are world models? Some say medium-rare, others say rare. Some insist they haven't even hit the table yet.
Over the past year, the rising heat across video generation, embodied intelligence, autonomous driving, and Physical AI has pushed the same underlying question to center stage: AI isn't just about "generating" anymore — it's about truly understanding space, physical laws, causality, and the consequences of every action.
When models start venturing into the real world, they face more than text, images, and video. They encounter a physical environment that changes, pushes back, and carries real consequences.
The industry consensus so far: world models matter. Beyond that, plenty of details remain up for debate. What still separates "can generate" from "can understand"? Where will world models land first? Robotics? Autonomous driving? Somewhere else entirely?
No one can say for sure. Everyone's pressing forward down the path they believe in.
