Living in an era where AI is rapidly transforming life, I'm grateful for my unforgettable internship at Yunqi Capital, a firm dedicated to tech investing. It sharpened my intuition for tech entrepreneurship and technology applications, and helped me begin developing a cognitive framework for evaluating emerging technologies from an investor's perspective — for example, how to assess a technology's commercial prospects by balancing cost, performance, and willingness to pay.

I've always been interested in AI technology and applications. During my time at Yunqi, I constantly followed my mentor in chasing the latest international AI breakthroughs and application experiments, continuously updating my understanding of AI. Yunqi's platform gave me access to a wealth of cutting-edge tech startups and the analytical perspectives of experienced investors. Yunqi's investment team is highly professional with a great culture — flat organization, everyone eager to share and exchange. Interns learn Yunqi's accumulated tech investment methodology under mentor guidance, and mentors encourage interns to actively look, think, and ask. Looking back, interning at Yunqi was undoubtedly an excellent decision and a deeply rewarding experience.

The internship wasn't simply about researching or organizing interview transcripts — it encouraged independent thinking and initiative. My mentor often guided me to think about "why" rather than just demanding "do this," this "teach a man to fish" approach helped me dig into the underlying logic of projects and sectors, explore the drivers behind business models, gain deeper understanding of investment logic, and build systematic cognition and methodology. Additionally, my mentor considered my personal interests and career direction when assigning work, maximizing my gains. Everyone was wonderful — we even played badminton together during onsite work. The atmosphere was warm and harmonious. I'm sure Yunqi has more fun and interesting experiences waiting for you.

During my internship at Yunqi, I had three main takeaways:

Professionalism: I deeply felt the high professionalism of team members. They had thorough understanding of various sub-sectors in tech, from underlying technology to top-level design. This gave me systematic learning on how to become a solid venture investor.

Patience: Even though AI entrepreneurship is extremely hot right now, my mentor had me start from basics — through patient and in-depth research on large language model technology, truly understanding the current LLM market. Meanwhile, teaching me to evaluate every startup with a more rigorous perspective.

Human touch: During my internship, I had opportunities to build friendships with every colleague and engage in deep conversations with them. I was fortunate to participate in the intern activity [ASK VC], meeting many peers passionate about investing, which greatly expanded my network in the venture capital field.

Some say "experiences that are too enjoyable don't bring much growth," but that doesn't apply at Yunqi. In a warm and positive work environment, I embraced abundant gains:

First, I gained an entirely new perspective on AI, deepening my holistic grasp of AI especially large models. My undergraduate studies focused more on specific applications of computer vision. My internship at Yunqi let me see the full landscape of large models from a more macro perspective. I thoroughly understood the significance of open source for AI development, the biggest challenges facing current commercialization, and how different funding sources view various layers of the AI industry chain.

Second, sufficient communication with my mentor allowed deep understanding of the VC industry. My mentor shared his VC work life and perspectives from all angles daily, letting me more vividly and comprehensively understand VC work style, life interests, etc. beyond research work, thereby building deeper cognition of VC and clearer career planning.

Third, the warm atmosphere. Deep exchanges with mentors, passionate discussions with fellow interns, communication with HR, and conversations with alumni all made me feel warm and gain tremendously!

Carlos

Fudan University Fanhai International School of Finance Master's Student

At Yunqi, I deeply experienced rigor toward investing, attention to technical details, and sincerity toward interns. As an intern, being able to participate in complete project processes and receive mentor feedback — if sufficiently proactive — yields substantial gains. Meanwhile, working with different mentors gave me cross-disciplinary, cross-sector perspectives. The company atmosphere was also harmonious; as an intern I participated in both badminton and basketball team building.

During the internship, the most important lesson I learned: investing isn't just industry research, but also includes converting early resource accumulation into deal flow, conducting deep due diligence during mid-stage project evaluation, making investment decisions, completing valuation negotiations, and convincing the committee to invest. Behind this lie more fundamental personal qualities, making me aware of my shortcomings and clarifying my future development direction.

If you also believe that investment luck comes from seeking truth, challenging yourself, and breaking conventions, then Yunqi is a place suitable for your growth.
