"What you'll do"
- Assist your mentor with industry, market, and company research, project interviews, due diligence, and other investment-related work, with opportunities to participate in the full deal execution process.
"What we look for"
- Currently enrolled at a top domestic or international university with strong written and verbal communication skills in both Chinese and English;
- Deep understanding of one or more B2B tech sub-sectors;
- 1–2 prior internships at investment firms, consulting firms, or equity research;
- Intellectually curious, self-driven, and a fast learner who can solve problems independently;
- Strong first-principles thinking and communication skills;
- Available for at least 3 days per week; long-term interns preferred.

My background is in finance, and I covered industrial software and frontier tech, so I was constantly learning on the job throughout my internship. I'm really grateful that my mentor was always encouraging. Knowing I still lacked hard technical knowledge, they gave me very structured guidance — taking me to tons of roadshow meetings to get up to speed quickly by hearing founders pitch directly, plus sharing insightful reports from time to time. Saved me a lot of headaches throughout the internship, haha.
My time at Yunqi brought me many gains: deeper understanding of the tech industry, stronger sector and project analysis skills, and a tight-knit group of friends. But what struck me most was the all-around support the entire team gave interns. That support showed up in mentors sharing everything they knew, colleagues' deep-dive sharing sessions, and the great memories of team dinners and workouts outside of work. During my internship, I got a comprehensive look at China's VC industry and was able to actively participate — that trust and those opportunities are truly rare.
What really struck me during my internship was how energetic and thoughtful my mentor and colleagues were. Whether attending roadshows together or revising materials with my mentor, following their thought process showed me what lens and methodology a top early-stage investment firm uses to judge whether a startup is truly worth betting on, how to craft a compelling investment narrative for internal colleagues through the storyline of materials, or taking a step back, how to build our portfolio to establish Yunqi's culture and reputation in the industry, and how to look across time to predict what returns an investment might generate five years out. That was the eye-opening part of this internship for me!
