Left Hand Doctor (Beijing Zuoyi Technology Co., Ltd.), a leading domestic developer of medical AI systems, recently announced the completion of a RMB 100 million Series B funding round. The round was led by Qiming Venture Partners, with follow-on investments from notable institutions including Haier Capital. CEC Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor.

The proceeds will fund R&D upgrades to Left Hand Doctor's diagnostic and therapeutic AI product pipeline and the expansion of related commercial application scenarios, advancing the company's mission to "build proactive AI that makes quality healthcare accessible."

5Y Capital led the company's angel round in 2016.

Founded in 2015, Left Hand Doctor is an innovative enterprise focused on applying artificial intelligence technology to healthcare. The company integrates cutting-edge AI technologies — including deep learning, big data processing, semantic understanding, and interactive medical dialogue — with clinical medicine to create "proactive medical AI." Its goal is to use technology to expand the supply of quality medical resources and alleviate the mismatch between the over-concentration of top-tier resources and the dispersed needs of patients.

Left Hand Doctor's core product, the AI Doctor Platform, covers more than 6,000 common diseases across 35 major departments. By combining its underlying engine with diverse application scenarios, the company provides solutions including consultation room transcription robots, intelligent online triage, intelligent post-diagnosis management, intelligent pharmaceutical management, and AI-powered internet hospitals. It currently serves over 500 industry clients spanning tertiary hospitals, insurance companies, multinational pharmaceutical firms, internet giants, pharmacy chains, and health management companies.

At the foundational technology level, Left Hand Doctor has achieved a leap from "passive AI" to "proactive AI." Its AI learning model is no longer limited to knowledge graph-driven approaches alone, but has evolved into a dual-engine system powered by both "data and knowledge." Left Hand Doctor aims for its AI doctors to dynamically learn diagnostic logic by following top specialists in real clinical environments. Under this "proactive AI" learning framework, extensive labeled training data is unnecessary — simply digitizing and structuring doctor-patient interactions from real-world scenarios can support efficient AI learning.

Beyond algorithm and model iteration, a key enabler of this technical breakthrough has been innovation in data sourcing. In August 2020, at the CHINC conference, Left Hand Doctor launched China's first consultation room transcription robot, drawing significant industry attention. The device leverages superior hardware and leading end-to-end speech processing technology to intelligently separate doctor and patient voices in noisy clinical environments. Supported by a speech recognition model trained on specialized medical terminology, it accurately comprehends doctor-patient communication and parses it into structured electronic medical records. With the transcription robot's assistance, physicians can generate standard records without dictating them a second time, with support for copying or API import into EMR systems — saving time spent on documentation and improving consultation efficiency. In the process of assisting clinical care, the robot employs federated learning to autonomously absorb diagnostic expertise from renowned specialists at leading hospitals, all while preserving hospital data security and confidentiality. This embodies the essence of the "proactive AI" that Left Hand Doctor advocates.

In terms of scenario applications, Left Hand Doctor has built a humanized, full-spectrum AI doctor diagnostic system adaptable to various use cases. Based on its "proactive AI" learning approach, the AI doctor moves beyond the rigid, templated dialogue patterns common in conventional systems, engaging patients through flexible, human-like conversation. Drawing on vast medical knowledge and advanced diagnostic experience, it serves the full spectrum of patient needs across online and offline settings, covering the complete care cycle from pre-diagnosis to diagnosis to post-diagnosis. It can partner with leading hospitals via SaaS models to support smart hospital construction and internet hospital operations; collaborate with major pharmaceutical companies to enable long-term patient tracking and management at the point of care, providing real-time data feedback and medical support while leveraging product networks for drug outreach; work with internet giants to enhance online consultation conversion rates and user engagement, improving experience and strengthening paid user retention; and partner with insurance companies, health management firms, and pharmacy chains to serve long-term health and chronic disease management for policyholders, employees, and members within private traffic ecosystems, supporting the development of user benefit systems.

Regarding this funding round, Zhang Chao, founder and CEO of Left Hand Doctor, stated: "We are grateful for the trust and support of our new and existing shareholders. The Left Hand Doctor team will continue to uphold our mission of 'building proactive AI that makes quality healthcare accessible,' deepening our presence in healthcare service scenarios, improving physician efficiency, and enhancing the patient experience. While continuing to provide the industry with an integrated online-offline medical service engine covering pre-diagnosis, diagnosis, and post-diagnosis, we will also collaborate with tertiary hospitals to deliver post-diagnosis management services through internet hospital models — alleviating pressure on offline healthcare services and supporting patients' home-based recovery management."
