Silicon-carbon anode products are set for mass production.

GruEnergy (格龙新材料科技), a lithium battery silicon-based anode material company, recently completed a tens-of-millions-of-dollars Series A+ funding round. This round was led by Star Navigation Capital, with co-investment from 5Y Capital, Baidu Venture, and Yiyuan Capital.

Xiaoyu Xu, an investor at 5Y Capital, said: "Anode materials are one of the core bottlenecks limiting continuous breakthroughs in lithium-ion battery performance. Currently, the performance of traditional graphite anodes is approaching theoretical limits, while silicon-based anodes represented by silicon-carbon and pure silicon offer better specific capacity and fast-charging performance than graphite. They are highly promising anode materials for next-generation battery applications. We are pleased to see GruEnergy leverage its team and technical capabilities to rapidly achieve the development and commercialization of silicon-based anodes, and we look forward to the broader application of the company's products in downstream lithium battery scenarios in the future."

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2017, GruEnergy is dedicated to the R&D and production of silicon-carbon and pure silicon anodes for lithium batteries. The company's team includes multiple experts who have worked in silicon materials for many years. Leveraging its Silicon Valley R&D team, along with joint development, iteration, and upgrades with battery companies and end-application enterprises in Europe, the US, and China, GruEnergy has already launched several silicon-based anode materials ready for mass production and holds multiple core patents in the silicon anode field. GruEnergy has offices in Silicon Valley, Michigan, Germany, and Changzhou, China, with a mass production facility in Changzhou. The company plans to simultaneously expand production capacity in Changzhou and overseas to meet customer demand in Europe, the US, and China.

GruEnergy believes that compared to currently widely used graphite materials, silicon-based anode materials offer advantages including high gravimetric capacity, excellent fast-charging performance, and good low-temperature performance. The company states that GruEnergy's silicon anode technology can reduce EV battery charging time from 0 to 80% to under eight minutes, making it a key technology for addressing EV charging anxiety. Currently, GruEnergy's silicon-carbon anode products have passed rigorous testing by leading cell manufacturers and are about to enter large-scale mass production and delivery. Its pure silicon anode product performance has also gained recognition from European and American customers.

GruEnergy founder Song Han said that the proceeds from this funding round, together with the support of new and existing investors, will accelerate the company's silicon-based material production and product adoption, laying a solid foundation for its future strategic development.

5Y Capital seeks out, supports, and inspires lonely entrepreneurs, providing them with support from the spiritual to all operational aspects of running a business. We believe that if the "crazy" you that others see begins to be believed in, the world will become a different place.
