On December 28, Forbes China released its 2020 list of China's Best Venture Capitalists, with Qin Liu, founding partner of 5Y Capital, and 5Y Capital partners Fei Zhang and Yuan Yuan all making the cut.
For 2020, Forbes China once again conducted independent research on active venture capitalists in mainland China, selecting 100 investors with strong track records over the past five years from nearly 200 active VC firms. In the survey distributed to these investors, over 95% of those who made the list submitted valid responses.
Compared to the 2008 Forbes China Best Venture Capitalists list — published during the US financial crisis — only 11 investors have survived the full 12-year cycle and remain on the ranking this year. The average age of listed investors this year is 49; more than 60% made their early career-defining investments between the ages of 37 and 42. No more than 30% of portfolio companies saw a blockbuster IPO within five years of investment, while some exits required waiting well over a decade.
