5Y News | 5Y Capital portfolio company Superparameter Technology completes $30 million Series A+ round
Transforming game content production through AI.

Game AI company Parametrix announced on January 28, 2021 that it had raised $30 million in a Series A+ round, led by 5Y Capital (formerly Morningside Venture Capital) with participation from Gaorong Capital.
"We firmly believe that the convergence of AI and gaming represents a massive paradigm shift for the industry," said a partner at 5Y Capital. "Kakar (Yongsheng Liu) and his team are entrepreneurs we deeply admire. They're making fascinating innovations in both game AI and AI-native games. We hope they can push the industry to new heights by combining technology, algorithms, and art."
Q&A

Yongsheng Liu
Founder, Parametrix
Q1
What was your biggest takeaway from the past year?
Yongsheng Liu: Trying to put into practice the idea of "developing a company as a product." Pushing myself to think more systematically when making plans and major decisions.
Q2
What's a book/show/movie you've especially enjoyed recently? Why?
Yongsheng Liu: George Wald's The Selection of Life. The author argues that life is an incredible form of matter, yet it's also part of natural law — reproducible, inevitable. Given the right conditions and enough time, life will emerge anywhere. This made me think about the process of innovation. That flash of insight in the brain, the birth of a new idea — it seems wonderfully uncertain. But idea generation actually follows patterns too. Construct the right conditions, have the patience to endure solitude, and a small team can still build products of extraordinary imagination.
Q3
Why did you choose 5Y's investment?
Yongsheng Liu: The me that others see as crazy — to 5Y, I'm apparently not crazy enough. Richard and Fisher are experienced mentors who ignite entrepreneurs with their own wild passion.

Sherry Zhao Hejia
Investment Manager, 5Y Capital
Q1
5Y led Parametrix's Series A in 2019 and is leading the Series A+ again. What's the investment thesis?
Sherry Zhao: We've been continuously following AI applications in consumer scenarios, and gaming is an excellent one: algorithms can iterate rapidly based on user behavioral data and feedback. Parametrix is transforming traditional game development through reinforcement learning. With its self-developed AI game development platform, it extracts core gameplay mechanics and creates personalized experiences for players.
The Parametrix team combines both algorithmic and game development capabilities. Over the past two years, they've made consistent progress — from validating concepts through small games, to large-scale deployment of AI companion NPCs, to self-developing next-generation AI-driven games. Today, their technical capabilities have gained initial product validation. We look forward to Parametrix delivering truly disruptive gaming experiences to players.

Founded in early 2019, Parametrix is dedicated to transforming game content production through artificial intelligence.
The team's backgrounds span both AI and gaming, with full-stack capabilities covering "AI research + AI commercialization + AI game development." They are one of the few teams globally to have successfully deployed AI in large commercial games and generated revenue. Founder Yongsheng Liu (Kakar Liu) previously served as General Manager of Tencent AI Lab and led the Go AI "Fine Art" and Honor of Kings AI "Wukong" projects.
Drawing on extensive experience and leading capabilities in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and large-scale systems engineering, Parametrix has built the game AI platform "Delta." It adopts an entirely new "AI + game" development pipeline, driving paradigm innovation on both the development and experience sides.
Currently, the "Delta" platform can orchestrate over 500,000 cores across cloud providers, supporting more than 500,000 concurrent AI instances online, serving hundreds of millions of players daily across over 40 countries with hundreds of billions of API calls. Parametrix's AI services have generated substantial commercial value for multiple games with annual revenue exceeding 1 billion RMB, spanning genres including sandbox, open world, FPS, MOBA, and casual competitive.
Yongsheng Liu stated that this round of funding will, on one hand, further upgrade the "Delta" platform to serve a broader customer base with higher-quality services; on the other hand, it will continue to increase resource investment in AI-native games, attracting more outstanding talent and teams from China and abroad to jointly build disruptive products.
Yongsheng Liu noted: "Since the 'Fine Art' era, one thing we've always believed is that AI is alive. Going forward, the imaginative space for game AI certainly won't be limited to low-dimensional scenarios like improving efficiency and reducing costs. It will be higher-dimensional, more disruptive — defining new gameplay mechanics, generating content for games and even virtual worlds, becoming an indispensable part of them. The revolution is coming."

5Y Capital (formerly Morningside Venture Capital) currently manages approximately $3 billion across USD and RMB dual-currency funds. We believe that if the you others see as crazy begins to be believed in, the world becomes a better place.
