Our Shenzhen office is officially open.
Today, we held a small opening ceremony there. Following our locations on Wuyuan Road in Shanghai, Sanyuanqiao in Beijing, and Central in Hong Kong, we now welcome everyone to our new space at Gemdale Viseen Center in Shenzhen — with the hope of building deeper connections with entrepreneurs across the Greater Bay Area.

Our ties to the Greater Bay Area go back to 5Y Capital's earliest days. In June 2008, our very first investment was YY, based in Guangzhou.
We were entrepreneurs who started out in the middle of a financial crisis. On March 31, 2008, we closed our first USD fund. On September 17 that same year, Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, and a systemic financial crisis swept across the globe. History is full of upheaval and sudden leaps, but entrepreneurs find opportunity in crisis. Markets have their cycles, but human potential and willpower are impossible to measure.
For many people, the present moment doesn't feel optimistic. For young entrepreneurs especially, this may be their first venture, launched into a pandemic, with one uncertainty after another. But looking back at history, the exceptional founders we've known often made their most critical decisions during downturns. We have full confidence in Chinese entrepreneurs' ability to navigate cycles. They did it before. You can do it now.
We've also grown alongside China's economy, together with the founders we back. 5Y Capital's footprint in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen region has expanded from mobile internet into every sector. Since 2008, we've invested in 58 startups in the area, including unicorns and public companies across diverse fields: JOYY, UCWeb, Lizhi, Viomi, Huya, Xpeng Motors, Pony.ai, Superparameter, XtalPi, Deepexi, Xingyun Global, HAI Robotics, XVerse, Jaguar Microsystems, Mini World, and Xpeng AeroHT. More and more innovators are emerging from the Guangzhou-Shenzhen region, and we will keep seeking them out and standing by them — to be founders' earliest, longest-term, and most trusted partner.

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen region has always been a place that dares to lead, brimming with innovative energy. It carries the pioneering spirit of reform and opening up. In the 1980s, young people flocked here, and the enterprises born in the early Shekou Industrial Zone would go on to become the entrepreneurial miracles we know today. Now the Greater Bay Area is becoming a new hub for technological innovation, and a new generation of founders will create the miracles of this era.
