On March 12, a lively and engaging gamified virtual conference was successfully held online. After logging in, participants could create their own avatars or use AI facemoji, then move around a virtual lounge like in a video game, interacting with other attendees and communicating in real time.

Spring 2022 Supersonic Program Online Kickoff

This online event was the Spring 2022 Supersonic Program kickoff. Due to pandemic-related constraints, the kickoff was held virtually and supported by Vland Cloud, a permanent startup partner from the Fall 2021 Supersonic cohort.

In late February, the Supersonic Program — co-launched by Agora and 5Y Capital — opened recruitment for its Spring 2022 cohort. Over the course of more than twenty days, through application screening, one-on-one video interviews, and multi-angle evaluations, 20 startups ultimately emerged from 203 applicants to join this Supersonic cohort and begin their journey as startup partners.

During the online kickoff, alumni from previous cohorts — "Qishuier" and "My Earth" — as well as a representative from this cohort's startup partners, "DeepLight Alight," shared their well-wishes, insights, and expectations. Following the kickoff ceremony, the originally scheduled in-person courses set to begin in late March were postponed to April in compliance with pandemic prevention policies. In the interim, the Supersonic Program will continue offering its startup partners a rich array of online community activities, including industry networking and startup lectures.

Over the next three months, these 20 selected startups will not only receive resources from co-founders Agora and 5Y Capital, but also comprehensive support across technology, product, marketing, and branding from a diverse ecosystem of partners — cloud providers, hardware technology vendors, incubators, and media — helping them explore new scenarios and technologies for real-time interaction and deliver innovative value across industries.

In recent years, real-time interaction (RTE) has emerged as a next-generation foundational capability, gradually permeating every industry. Since 2015, new use cases have exploded annually. The fields represented by this cohort's applicants show that beyond the currently booming metaverse and digital humans, new scenarios and technologies in healthcare, VR, enterprise collaboration, and developer tools are also emerging. The pandemic has especially accelerated this trend — people have grown increasingly accustomed to working, learning, and even living online and remotely. Real-time interaction is now underpinning innovative ways for people, objects, and spaces to communicate and interact. The Supersonic Program saw unique flashes of brilliance in how real-time interaction is being applied across different industries in every applicant, and believes even more awe-inspiring use cases will emerge in the future.

High-Frequency Scenarios Among Spring Applicants

Beyond in-person courses and online exchange events, this year's startup partner benefits have been comprehensively upgraded to better support the growth of participating founders.

  1. More free product packages — Global cloud providers and technology partners including AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle have joined to offer RTE players more free resources;

  2. Deeper technical and GTM support — Commercialization, product, and technical experts in audio/video, networking, and AI serve as "buddies" to address startup pain points in real time; new programming including the Supersonic Podcast and VC Day helps startups gain visibility from multiple angles;

  3. Broader geographic coverage — First-time reach into APAC regions including Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia; deeper support to accelerate the growth of RTE startup partners.
