The biggest challenge for AI applications in healthcare is how to actually deploy them on the ground. The Longwood Valley team is composed of medical scientists from Harvard Medical School and engineers from Stanford University. They not only possess cutting-edge technology and product development capabilities, but can also approach problems from a clinical perspective to meet doctors' actual needs — giving them the potential to achieve major breakthroughs quickly and form a closed commercial loop.

Recently, Beijing Longwood Valley Medical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Longwood Valley Medical"), a high-tech AI enterprise, announced the completion of a seed funding round worth tens of millions of RMB. This round was jointly invested by FreeS Fund and Lei Ming, one of Baidu's seven co-founders.

Regarding this funding round, An Yicheng, co-founder of Longwood Valley Medical, stated that the company is committed to using the most advanced AI technology combined with top-tier medical teams to create first-class AI medical products that meet the actual needs of clinicians. The team will make full use of this round of financing in two ways: first, for clinical trials and registration of new products, while continuing to deepen its work in deep learning algorithms and product precision to improve clinicians' diagnostic and treatment efficiency; second, by continuing to embed itself deeply in hospitals, using AI technology to serve clinical needs more precisely — from imaging diagnosis and disease classification to preoperative planning and precision medicine — providing clinicians with a full-process AI diagnosis and treatment solution and accelerating the deployment of AI products in clinical practice.

The Longwood Valley team was formed in 2017 on the campuses of Harvard University and Stanford University in the United States. Its core members are postdocs and PhDs from prestigious universities at home and abroad, including Harvard University, Stanford University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Tsinghua University. The team maintains long-term cooperative relationships with several top medical institutions both domestically and internationally. FreeS Fund has been paying close attention to AI applications across various industries, and healthcare is one of the directions where AI may achieve near-term breakthroughs.

Philips Healthcare, one of the "Big Three" multinational medical device giants known as GPS (GE, Philips, Siemens), has also extended an olive branch to the Longwood Valley team. In September 2018, Longwood Valley Medical was invited to participate in the Healthcare AI Start-up Global Accelerator selection competition hosted by Philips Healthcare. This accelerator was a comprehensive startup incubation program launched by Philips Healthcare across multiple regions including the United States, Europe, India, and China. After fierce competition, the Longwood Valley team stood out from more than 300 AI startups in China to become one of the four final selected projects. After joining the Philips Healthcare AI Global Accelerator, Longwood Valley will explore cooperation models with Philips in depth, comprehensively enhance the team's overall capabilities, and dedicate itself to becoming China's most top-tier AI healthcare enterprise.
