HKIC Partners with Galaxy Universal to Expand Hong Kong Ecosystem, AI-Powered Humanoid Robots Engage On-Site, Embodied Intelligence Gathers Innovation Talent | BlueRun Ventures Headlines

With the support of HKIC, Galaxy Universal will deepen its roots and expand in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited (HKIC) today launched an ecosystem expansion partnership with Beijing Galaxy Universal Robot Co., Ltd. (Galaxy Universal), accelerating Hong Kong's frontier technology innovation and application in embodied AI through investment-driven and ecosystem expansion models, and advancing Hong Kong as an internationally leading embodied AI technology R&D and talent hub. Galaxy Universal will carry out strategic deployment in Hong Kong, including: first, supporting Hong Kong to become an international embodied AI talent hub and innovation center; second, exploring practical applications of robots in commercial, tourism, and other service scenarios in Hong Kong; third, building local teams to promote the development of embodied AI technology and industry in Hong Kong. In response to the partnership with HKIC, Galaxy Universal held a forum this morning titled "Exploring the Ultimate Form of Artificial Intelligence," where the two parties launched the ecosystem expansion cooperation with the assistance of Galaxy Universal's robot "Galbot." Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po witnessed the launch ceremony and delivered remarks. HKIC CEO Clara Chan Ka-kai and Peking University Assistant Professor, Director of the PKU-Galaxy Universal Embodied Intelligence Joint Laboratory Dr. Wang He signed on behalf of their respective organizations at the launch ceremony.

The forum specially invited approximately thirty Hong Kong high school students to experience interacting with Galbot firsthand and to engage in dialogue with forum guests during an exclusive session for secondary students.

Hong Kong high school students experienced interacting with Galaxy Universal robot Galbot firsthand and marveled at Galbot's impressive demonstration. Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po (second from left) and Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited CEO Clara Chan Ka-kai (third from left) also participated, while Galaxy Universal co-founder Yao Tengzhou (first from left) explained Galbot's technological advancements.

Hong Kong SAR Government Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po stated: "Embodied AI possesses deep learning and execution capabilities, can be put to great use in different scenarios, deeply integrate with various industries, and exponentially enhance productivity. It is an important new frontier for artificial intelligence. Hong Kong has multiple advantages. Combined with the commercialization and intelligent manufacturing capabilities of Greater Bay Area sister cities, plus the convergence of research talent, there is enormous potential for developing embodied AI. I hope that with HKIC's active guidance, partners like Galaxy Universal will participate more deeply in building Hong Kong's AI robotics ecosystem, helping Hong Kong accelerate the cultivation of new quality productive forces and actively contribute to national and global technological development."

HKIC CEO Clara Chan Ka-kai stated: "HKIC hopes to leverage the characteristics of 'patient capital' to accelerate frontier technology R&D and cooperation, explore more practical applications, conduct more comprehensive talent training, and build Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem around the scope of embodied AI. Embodied AI combines the understanding and reasoning capabilities of large language and image models with the flexible operation of robotic hardware, creating new technologies and opening new markets. Through this cooperation, HKIC has further completed its multi-dimensional layout in the AI track, with coverage extending from industrial scenarios into daily life."

Peking University Assistant Professor, Director of the PKU-Galaxy Universal Embodied Intelligence Joint Laboratory Dr. Wang He stated: "We are deeply grateful for HKIC's support for Galaxy Universal. We recognize the natural advantages Hong Kong possesses in embodied AI development and hope to win attention and trust from domestic and international markets through Hong Kong's strong market resources, deep talent reserves, and broad international perspective. At the same time, we will bring the most cutting-edge technology to Hong Kong, cultivate the most outstanding comprehensive talent for Hong Kong, promote the development of Hong Kong's embodied AI field through multi-party cooperation, drive the landing of emerging industries, and strive to open a new era for Hong Kong."

BlueRun Ventures Managing Partner Jui Chan, who co-organized the forum, stated in his keynote speech: "Congratulations to Galaxy Universal and HKIC on launching the ecosystem expansion cooperation. BlueRun Ventures believes that artificial intelligence will bring the fourth industrial revolution, and embodied AI is driving AI to break through limitations, achieving innovation in productive forces and production relations, creating enormous commercial and social value. Embodied AI is also expected to promote local industrial upgrading in Hong Kong and unlock local innovation potential. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's advantages in talent, capital, and policy support will also provide fertile ground for the long-term development of embodied AI."

The forum "Exploring the Ultimate Form of Artificial Intelligence, Co-creating the Next Wave of Hong Kong Miracle" gathered figures from scientific research, academia, and industry. In a roundtable discussion themed "From Technology to Society: Artificial Intelligence Opens a New Chapter for Hong Kong," Galaxy Universal co-founder Yao Tengzhou, Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, Tsinghua University Assistant Professor Dr. Yi Li, and Google Cloud Hong Kong Engineering Lead Zhou Changyuan jointly explored frontier topics including "the transformations AI will bring to society and business" and "the value of humanoid robots." The three guests unanimously agreed that interdisciplinary talent capable of flexible adaptation is a necessary condition for innovation and technology development, and they provided students on-site with advice for future study and career development.

"Galbot" is the first-generation general-purpose embodied multimodal large model robot developed by Galaxy Universal, which also made its appearance at today's venue, bringing an impressive demonstration for attending students and guests. Yao Tengzhou introduced that Galbot features high technological complexity, capable of recognizing items of all materials and forms under different lighting and environments, and has even advanced to dexterously opening cabinets, drawers, and hanging clothes. Galbot can also be widely applied in various commercial and industrial scenarios, such as soon being deployed in retail to complete stocking, retrieval, and inventory work, with future exploration of more application scenarios including community elderly care and home services.
