Neutral-atom quantum startup MatriQ raises nearly 1 billion yuan in four rounds within a year, achieves whole-machine delivery at over 1,000 qubit scale | Unity Ventures portfolio news

The only neutral-atom quantum computing company in China with the capability to deliver complete quantum computing systems at the kiloqubit scale or above.

MatriQ, a Unity Ventures angel-round portfolio company, has announced the completion of a Series A+ round worth several hundred million RMB. The round was jointly led by Yunfeng Capital, 37 Interactive Entertainment, Puhua Capital, Caitong Capital, Shanghai Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, Tangxing Capital, Borui Capital, Hechuang Capital, and Haibang Investment, with existing shareholder Minyin International continuing to increase its stake. The investor lineup spans top-tier financial institutions, corporate venture capital, and state-backed capital.

Since launching its first funding round in the second half of 2025, MatriQ has completed four rounds within a year, raising nearly 1 billion RMB in total.

Founded in 2025, MatriQ is a frontier technology company focused on full-stack neutral-atom quantum computing solutions, with engineering, productization, and commercialization as its core priorities. The company's core team hails from world-renowned research institutions including the Max Planck Institute, Imperial College London, and the University of Cambridge, with more than a decade of accumulated expertise in neutral-atom technology.

Compared with superconducting approaches' dependence on ultra-low temperatures and ion-trap approaches' inherent scalability bottlenecks, neutral-atom quantum computing is widely recognized by the industry as one of the most promising paths to scalable general-purpose quantum computing, thanks to its strong scalability, long coherence times, excellent all-to-all connectivity, and lack of need for ultra-low temperature environments.

MatriQ's core technical breakthroughs are concentrated in two dimensions: large-scale programmable atomic array rearrangement capability and a "storage-entanglement" partitioned architecture.

In neutral-atom systems, due to the collisional blockade mechanism, atom loading in optical tweezer arrays has inherent randomness — initially trapped atoms follow a defect-containing distribution. Before executing quantum simulation or quantum gate operations, the system must move randomly loaded atoms to target positions through programmable paths, transforming them into ordered, defect-free atomic arrays.

MatriQ has already achieved the construction and stable operation of defect-free physical qubit arrays at a maximum scale of 2,310 qubits, with the system capable of completing a fully automated process from random atom loading identification, programmable path planning, to target array generation.

From the 300-physical-qubit prototype V1 in 2024, to 1,000-qubit defect-free arrays in 2025, to breaking through 2,310 qubits in the first half of 2026, MatriQ's R&D focus has shifted from array scale expansion to improvements in system stability, maintainability, and operational consistency, continuously strengthening its engineering capabilities.

The other key technology is the "storage-entanglement" partitioned architecture, where the system is spatially divided into two functional zones: a storage zone responsible for coherent maintenance of qubit arrays, and an entanglement zone that performs two-qubit gate operations, with cross-zone atom array scheduling completed via movable optical tweezers.

This design effectively isolates storage qubits from entanglement operation regions, reducing errors introduced by unintended light exposure and gate operations, while simultaneously providing underlying motional capability support for mainstream fault-tolerance schemes such as surface codes — representing one of the frontier directions in international neutral-atom quantum computing.

On core technical metrics, the system uses rubidium-87 atoms to achieve global single-qubit gate fidelity exceeding 99.9%, entanglement-zone two-qubit gate fidelity exceeding 99.2%, SPAM fidelity exceeding 99.7%, and experimental repetition rate of one experimental cycle per second. It supports quantum gate computation mode, quantum Hamiltonian simulation mode, and quantum simulator mode.

Overall, MatriQ has built a complete product matrix from core hardware to system integration, covering four tiers: complete machines, modules, rack systems, and quantum-supercomputing fusion.

At the complete machine level, MatriQ's self-developed "full-stack integrated large-scale neutral-atom quantum computer" made its first offline public debut at WAIC 2026.

The system integrates core modules including vacuum, optics, control and measurement, and thermal management into a unified whole, adopting a fully modular, highly integrated engineering design that breaks free from the deployment constraints of dispersed laboratory equipment. It is designed for long-duration stable operation, full-lifecycle maintenance iteration, and commercial on-site deployment. The significance of this complete machine lies in its being a complete, operational, and iterable engineering system rather than an isolated laboratory demonstration of metrics.

MatriQ is also the only neutral-atom quantum computing company in China with the capability to deliver complete quantum computing machines at the thousand-qubit scale, having completed the technical finalization of its first commercial product and fully transitioning from technology R&D to market commercialization, with the complete machine already receiving customer orders.

At the module level, the company possesses independent R&D and delivery capabilities for core modules including vacuum systems, optical systems, and control and measurement systems. This modular capability allows each system component to be independently upgraded and iterated, while also being flexibly combined according to different deployment scenarios, fundamentally ensuring the maintainability and scalability of the complete machine system.

At the rack system level, MatriQ has completed standardized rack integration of its complete machine system, transforming complex quantum optical experimental apparatus into transportable, deployable, and maintainable industrial product forms — a critical engineering leap from laboratory to commercial environment.

At the quantum-supercomputing fusion level, MatriQ is advancing collaborative exploration between quantum computing and classical supercomputing. During WAIC, the Shanghai Cube Pro hybrid quantum-classical training device, which the company co-developed, was jointly unveiled, exploring collaboration between quantum computing and AI computing power.

Following this funding round, MatriQ will continue investing around three directions:

On hardware technology, it will continue加码ing complete machine engineering capability upgrades and logical qubit breakthroughs, with plans to achieve 3,000-physical-qubit continuous loading and 30+ logical qubits in 2026-2027, reach 8,000-10,000 physical qubits and 100+ logical qubits in 2027-2028, and advance high-speed quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing in 2028-2029.

On quantum cloud platforms, it will launch construction of the MatriQ computing cloud platform, with unified access to self-developed physical QPU, gradually opening access portals to quantum hardware and simulation simulators, lowering the barrier for external teams to use, and forming a positive feedback loop of demand feedback and product iteration.

On talent development, it will continue recruiting professional talent in atomic physics, optical engineering, precision manufacturing, electronic control and measurement, quantum algorithms, and system software, providing support for hardware iteration, error correction breakthroughs, and cloud service deployment.
