2024 Global Top 5 Biotech Venture Capital Firm

Endpoints News found that venture capital funding has become increasingly concentrated in recent years, with investors showing greater appetite for biopharma sectors with innovative potential. Specifically, funding for biopharma/platform technology accounted for over 55% of total financing in both 2023 and 2024, higher than in 2021 and 2022. With $27.3 billion in funding, this sector became the primary destination for venture capital over the past year, followed by manufacturing and services.

Since 2022, the biopharma sector has shown a trend of fewer Series A rounds but larger individual deal sizes. Investors are devoting more resources and capital to earlier-stage projects to better position them for subsequent fundraising. At the same time, the sector overall has seen fewer financing rounds but larger amounts per round.

Among biopharma companies that raised funding last year, small molecule and antibody (excluding ADC) companies comprised the largest group, followed by AI. Looking specifically at early-stage investment (seed through Series A), venture capital firms focused primarily on leading drug modalities and therapeutic areas. Biologics, antibodies, DNA, and RNA were the most favored by investors, followed by small molecules and cell therapy. By therapeutic area, oncology remained the primary concentration of capital, followed by neurology, endocrinology, and autoimmune diseases.
