What Can Hundreds of Young Hackers Build in 72 Hours? | A Conversation with the AdventureX Core Team + 8 Demo Day Projects

August 4, 2024

In the summer of 2024, a likely milestone event in China's tech and venture capital history took place: the AdventureX hackathon.

This gathering brought together hundreds of the most dynamic young people in China today. I'm certain that looking back ten or twenty years from now, the friendships forged here, the courage kindled, and the creativity sparked will gradually unfold and explode with tremendous energy, shaping our future business and technology.

AdventureX was an unprecedented hackathon. With a maximum age limit of 26, it became known as "China's first hackathon for young people." Over 1,200 applied, more than 200 were selected, and everyone converged in a closed auditorium at the Hupan Research Center in Hangzhou. For three days and three nights, they went from zero to one, completing the creation and development of more than 50 products.

As a special partner and judge, "Crossroads" was also on the ground at AdventureX in Hangzhou, observing the hackathon up close and meeting its founder: Ryan, a high school student of just 17. Today we've invited Ryan and his partner Marvin to join us on "Crossroads" to talk about their story.

"Crossroads" also selected 8 projects from among the 50+ AdventureX entries, inviting their core teams to share their products and the stories of what happened on the ground at AdventureX.

🎬 Podcast Timeline

Part 1 00:51 On the Ground: "This isn't a hackathon, it's basically a music festival and carnival!" AdventureX is more than a hackathon — it's a platform that encourages creation and exploration. It lowers the barrier to creating, letting more young people experience the joy of making things. Being there in person, Koji felt like he was at an exhilarating music festival, full of energy and passion.

Part 2 08:10 Online Demos: "These products are so cool! Come introduce them to more people on Crossroads" We selected 8 projects from the 50+ AdventureX entries and invited their core teams to share their products and their stories from the hackathon floor.

These 8 projects include winners from various tracks as well as projects we personally loved. We hope these stories and products, and the passion and creativity they contain, will bring you energy and inspiration.

Part 3 39:30 Interview: "A 17-year-old dared to put on a hackathon? Hear how this high schooler made his dream a reality" Ryan, a high school student of just 17, is a regular at overseas hackathons. After participating in Stanford TreeHacks, he hoped to host a hackathon in China with the same creative energy and hacker atmosphere.

We dove deep into his motivations and passion, exploring how he and core team members like Marvin step by step organized and planned a hackathon of such massive scale and visibility. It was a journey filled with challenges and opportunities, and we could clearly feel the joy and fulfillment of seeing a dream come true.

Though this summer's hackathon has concluded, AdventureX's journey is far from over. The core team has already begun planning multiple new ongoing projects, and "Crossroads" will walk alongside them, creating more content and events, continuing to seek out positive actors in the AI era, embracing new changes together and welcoming new possibilities.
