ChatGPT Mac Client Now Available

OpenAI announced that its first ChatGPT chatbot app for Mac is now free and available to all users. The Mac app is designed to integrate seamlessly with daily workflows, offering a convenient keyboard shortcut (Option + Space) to launch it anytime, anywhere. Users can easily interact with the chatbot and choose to attach files, photos, and screenshots to their messages for ChatGPT to analyze and create with. OpenAI says a new "Voice Mode" version supporting GPT-4o features will roll out to Mac users in the coming weeks.

First Sora-Made Commercial Debuts at Cannes

Titled The Origin of Toys "R" Us[1], the film was produced by director Nik Kleverov using OpenAI's Sora. This brand film tells the story of Toys "R" Us founder Charles Lazarus and his vision to "revolutionize the toy store industry."

According to the director, creative agency Native Foreign assigned roughly a dozen staff to the production, and Sora assisted with approximately 80-85% of the work. While most of the film was generated through Sora, some visual effects were manually corrected.

Google Rolls Out Gemini AI Sidebar

Google has made its Gemini AI sidebar[2] more accessible to paying users, now available across Workspace apps including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail, with simultaneous rollout on Gmail for Android and iOS.

In Docs, it helps refine and rephrase text; in Sheets, it creates tables and generates formulas; in Slides, it produces custom images; in Drive, it summarizes multiple documents without opening them. In Gmail, Gemini can summarize email threads, suggest replies, help draft new messages, and find information from inboxes or Drive files. These features require a Google One AI Premium subscription or access through Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-ons.

HONOR Launches AI Fraud Detection Technology

At today's Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai, HONOR Device unveiled the mobile industry's first on-device AI fraud detection technology.

According to HONOR CEO George Zhao, the technology can autonomously identify visual elements during user video calls. If AI face-swapping is detected, it alerts the user with a risk warning. Zhao demonstrated a scenario where a young person's face was real-time swapped via DeepFake to appear as an elderly person — prompting the phone to display a pop-up warning that the caller may be using AI-generated identity fraud.

Humanoid Robots to Greet Guests at WAIC

The highly anticipated World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance is about to begin. Embodied intelligence is reportedly a key theme this year, with 18 humanoid robots set to greet and receive guests at the Expo Exhibition Center. 14 companies including the National Innovation Center, Fourier Intelligence, Unitree, DEEP Robotics, CloudMinds, and Leju will provide the robotic products.

Meanwhile, WAIC 2024 expects to showcase roughly 100 large language models. SenseTime, Alibaba, Baidu, Ant Group, StepFun, iFlytek, Baichuan, and 4Paradigm are among the companies that will debut over 50 new LLM products.

DingTalk Opens Platform to All LLM Providers

At today's MAKE 2024 DingTalk Ecosystem Conference, DingTalk President Ye Jun announced that DingTalk will open its platform to all large model providers, building "China's most open AI ecosystem." The conference, themed "Make 2024: AI All-Stars," gathered DingTalk AI ecosystem partners and AI industry figures, with the official release of DingTalk version 7.6.

Notably, MiniMax, Moonshot AI, Zhipu AI, OrionStar, 01.AI, and Baichuan — six LLM makers at the hundreds-of-billions parameter scale — have announced integration with DingTalk, becoming the first batch of models to join after Tongyi.

Groq Now Valued at $2.5 Billion in Funding Round

Groq is valued at $2.5 billion in a new funding round, with BlackRock set to lead. The new financing is not yet finalized, and terms may change. According to PitchBook data, this deal would more than double Groq's valuation from its 2021 round, where it raised $300 million led by Tiger Global Management and D1 Capital Partners. The company has raised $367 million in total to date.

Groq specializes in designing chips for inference — processing already-deployed models rather than training new ones. AI startup DreamTech AI has completed consecutive angel and angel+ rounds totaling tens of millions of RMB. The angel round was led by Yuanhe Origin, with TusStar Venture Capital and Cloud Angel Fund participating. The angel+ round was exclusively invested by Monad Ventures.

DreamTech AI has independently developed a general-purpose 3D generation and rendering model capable of converting text to 3D models, as well as generating 3D models from single or multi-view images. This technology has broad applications in AR, VR, gaming, 3D design and printing, and animation. CEO Feihu Zhang stated that by year-end, the team aims to further optimize at the product engineering level, compressing model inference time for image or text-to-3D generation to under 30 seconds.
