South Korea's First Open-Source AI Model: EXAONE 3.0

On August 12, 2024, LG AI Research announced the launch of South Korea's first open-source AI model, "EXAONE 3.0", marking South Korea's formal entry into the global AI arena — a space long dominated by tech giants from the United States, China, and the Middle East.

EXAONE 3.0 is built on a decoder-only Transformer architecture with 7.8 billion parameters, designed specifically for English and Korean. The model has been trained on 60 million specialized data cases spanning patents, code, mathematics, and chemistry. LG plans to expand the training data to 100 million cases by year-end, covering additional domains.

Michael Bargury, CTO of security firm Zenity, demonstrated Copilot AI vulnerabilities at the Black Hat security conference. Microsoft's Copilot AI, built into Windows, can be manipulated by hackers to steal sensitive corporate data and even serve as a phishing attack tool. Bargury showed that using Copilot AI, large volumes of deceptive emails can be generated within minutes.

Attackers don't need to compromise corporate accounts to trick Copilot into modifying bank transfer information. "Lingo" rivals GPT-4o in voice capabilities, able to simulate human behavior, emotions, and response patterns. "Tiangong" Humanoid Robot Easily Handles Complex Terrain

At a gym in Beijing's Yizhuang district, a humanoid robot named "Tiangong" has drawn widespread attention from the tech community for its impressive athletic performance. The Tiangong robot can easily reach speeds of 6 kilometers per hour on a treadmill, and can freely climb stairs, traverse grass, and handle slopes in outdoor high temperatures.
