Recently, a Dalton Venture portfolio company — Hangzhou Xizi SyntheBio Technology Co., Ltd. — received an exclusive strategic investment from Henan HuiRong Fund and entered into a strategic partnership with the biomanufacturing pilot platform under Henan Investment Group.

Xizi SyntheBio is a synthetic biology company prioritized for incubation and cultivation by Westlake University's Future Industry Research Center. Its team brings together synthetic biologists from Jiangnan University and Zhejiang University, an AI enzyme engineering team, and seasoned bioprocessing experts.

The company focuses on oral anti-aging and skin anti-aging product lines. Since its founding, it has rapidly achieved independent R&D and low-cost, scaled production of high-value ingredients including recombinant collagen, rare ginsenosides, and cytidylic acid.

Synthetic biology is regarded as the next strategic industry direction after semiconductors. Xizi SyntheBio's differentiated positioning in the anti-aging ingredients space has allowed it to quickly establish recognition among numerous synthetic biology startups.

Leveraging One of MIIT's First Pilot Platforms

Bridging Process Validation and Scaled Production

Alongside the funding, the company has entered into a strategic partnership with the pilot platform under Henan Investment Group. The platform is built and operated by Henan Technology Achievement Transformation Biotechnology Co., Ltd., equipped with approximately 600 units of equipment capable of rapidly configuring seven major process modules to meet over 1,000 types of pilot testing needs.

This platform has been selected as one of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's first biomanufacturing pilot capability platforms, receiving the highest "five-star" service rating. Only five platforms nationwide received this rating, and Henan Technology Achievement Transformation Biotechnology is the sole recipient in Henan Province.

Using the Platform as a Leverage Point

Accelerating Commercialization of Bioactive Ingredients

Following this partnership, Xizi SyntheBio will leverage the Henan pilot platform to conduct scaled process testing across multiple pipelines, while simultaneously advancing construction of its own production base. Once operational, the base will continuously supply bio-synthesized ingredients such as recombinant collagen and rare ginsenosides to the skincare and functional health markets.

As synthetic biology moves from the laboratory to industrialization, pilot platforms, mass production bases, and industrial capital are all indispensable. The partnership between Xizi SyntheBio and Henan HuiRong Fund represents a model case of cutting-edge biotechnology combined with regional industrial strengths.
