The unit traces its roots to BYD's own IGBT R&D team, and its 2018 IGBT4.0 release was regarded as a benchmark achievement that broke the international giants' monopoly in the automotive segment . After an internal restructuring, the company organized around two main lines—new-energy-vehicle chips and industrial/consumer chips—and has used that platform to pursue strategic investments such as its stake in Huada Beidou to secure GNSS satellite-navigation chip capabilities for in-vehicle use . Primavera Capital's FirstLight vehicle injected a RMB 100 million strategic investment in May 2020 .
