James Mi

James Mi (宓群) is a founding partner at Lightspeed China Partners, the Chinese arm of Lightspeed Venture Partners . He joined in 2008 after serving as Google's Greater China chief representative, becoming one of the firm's early architects alongside Cao Darong . In 2011, Lightspeed China was established as a fully independent entity focused on early-stage investing in China — one of the first dollar funds to operate this way . Mi went on to back a string of notable companies including Meituan-Dianping, Pinduoduo, and Inphi Corporation (中际旭创) . The firm later rebranded as Guanghe Ventures (光速光合), with Mi continuing as a founding partner . In a late-2024 survey of investor outlooks, he described the moment as "the best time for early-stage tech investment" while noting the firm had been expanding its investment team and closing new RMB funds against the cycle .
