Lice Technology (力策科技) is a Chinese startup developing solid-state optical phased array (OPA) LiDAR chips and systems for autonomous driving, founded in 2013 by Zhang Zhongxiang, a photonic systems and integrated optics specialist with nearly a decade of LiDAR R&D experience . The company initially bootstrapped through project work before raising external funding, with FreeS Fund making its first investment in 2019 and describing Lice as one of the few teams globally capable of building OPA LiDAR . In 2021, Lice closed a Series B round led by Xiaomi Changjiang Industrial Investment Fund, with FreeS Fund and Gaojie Capital following on . FreeS Fund has repeatedly highlighted Lice as part of its broader bet on optical communications and sensor technologies for autonomous vehicles .
