RisingWave Labs

RisingWave Labs is an open-source database company founded by Yingjun Wu, a former Amazon Redshift engineer and IBM Research Almaden researcher who holds a PhD in computer science from the National University of Singapore . The company builds RisingWave, a cloud-native distributed streaming SQL database that uses PostgreSQL protocol and is written in Rust, designed to lower the complexity and cost of real-time applications through incremental stream processing . As of late 2022, the company had roughly 50 full-time employees distributed across seven time zones, with its commercial focus centered on North America . Yunqi Capital led its seed round and continued to back the company through subsequent rounds, including a $36 million Series A completed by early 2023 when RisingWave formally open-sourced the project . The 1.0 release in July 2023 highlighted performance gains of up to 660× over Apache Flink on stateful workloads in Nexmark benchmarks .
