Tapdata is a real-time data service platform company focused on enterprise OLTP (online transaction processing) workloads, founded by TJ Tang (唐建法), who previously spent years at MongoDB helping users migrate to distributed database technologies . The company's core product provides a logical, virtualized data access layer that connects disparate databases and business systems through log-based synchronization, enabling customers to pull data via standardized APIs without building custom ETL pipelines .

In mid-2021, Tapdata raised two consecutive rounds totaling tens of millions of USD—a Pre-A led exclusively by 5Y Capital and a Pre-A+ co-led by XVC and Delian Capital—with 5Y Capital partner Levi Liu calling the firm "the pioneer of China's real-time DaaS track" and noting that roughly 80% of the global database market serves TP scenarios . At that time, the company had already achieved revenue exceeding 10 million RMB in 2020 with break-even economics, serving customers including China Mobile, FAW Group, Chow Sang Sang, TCL, China Southern Power Grid, and Fubon Bank .

The company has since pursued an open-source strategy, launching a free cloud version called Tapdata Cloud in beta to promote adoption of its real-time DaaS architecture , and as of mid-2024 announced a strategic partnership with ThinkingData (思想科技) .
