Xingyuan Yuan is the founder and CEO of ColorfulClouds (彩云科技), a Chinese AI company he built from the ground up . He also serves as the head of Caiyun Weather, ColorfulClouds' weather application . His entrepreneurial path has been marked by self-described periods of difficulty and recalibration — in one account, he recalled a marathon late-night conversation with his CTO during a "haze-filled Beijing winter" about how to rescue the company and bring in more advertisers . In 2019 he began collaborating with China Literature Limited on machine-translation projects, an experience that rekindled his interest in web novels . He has maintained a close relationship with 5Y Capital, whose partner Fei Zhang (Fisher) backed him at the A round with the promise that "5Y can support you in doing what you love" . In 5Y Capital's portrait, Yuan comes across as something of an unconventional figure — "a bit of an oddball, with the air of an AI scientist" — who has since evolved toward a focus on building in-house AI models and AI-native products .
