Dreamina Merges With Xiao Yunque

Short Drama Launch

"Short Drama Mode: Activated"

How many of you, like me, always assumed that Dreamina was just the official Chinese name for Seedance?

After all, Dreamina has rolled out plenty of updates — canvas, Agent, skills... — but they're all buried so deep that the only thing anyone remembers is that this is where you can use the latest Seedance model.

Maybe it's not really Dreamina's fault. The AI video industry is still in its infancy, and nobody's figured out what the definitive winning formula looks like yet.

So Dreamina decided: if there's no meta, might as well bundle every validated tool that creators actually like into one place. Use whatever you want, fam. That's one way to solve the puzzle.

Recently Dreamina added what it calls a short drama production feature — a "Short Drama Studio" that integrates Xiao Yunque's short drama Agent capabilities, with some upgrades and optimizations on top.

Fair enough. Xiao Yunque is, after all, a fully mature short drama studio. This is basically the emperor abolishing feudal fiefdoms and bringing everything under central control — a grand unification.

It's a good thing. Now Dreamina users who want to make short dramas don't have to agonize over which site to pay for. Just walk into the Short Drama Studio and you're done.

It's honestly kind of funny. The CapCut product family has become like a rabbit with three burrows — entry points everywhere, almost connected into one giant software centipede.

Right? Dreamina has Xiao Yunque inside it, CapCut has Dreamina inside it. You contain me, I contain you.

Meanwhile, Dreamina also did everyone a solid and drove its own prices down.

Seedance 2.5 starts at ¥0.19 per second, or ¥0.18 per second via CLI — basically a 90% discount.

It used to cost nearly ¥1,000 to make a 10-minute video. Now, if you're lucky, you can crank one out for around ¥100. The golden age of AI video influencers has arrived.

This Double Eleven, while everyone else is frantically falling into consumerism traps, you're here using Dreamina to earn money and recoup your losses. Truly big brain energy 👍

So, is Dreamina's Short Drama Studio update actually any good? Let's test it out ⬇️

01

Parisian "No Heartburn" Short Drama

Anyone who scrolls Douyin regularly knows that "no heartburn" short dramas have been blowing up lately. The basic plot: a conscientious boss sells noodles at a premium, but all his customers flock to the cheap noodle shop next door. They all get sick, then come back sighing that yeah, his noodles are pricey, but at least they don't give you heartburn.

Such a brilliantly Chinese story absolutely must be adapted into an overseas short drama for cultural export.

As it happens, Dreamina's "Short Drama Studio" has a script creation feature that lets you upload a finished video and have it adapted to your specifications.

So I directly changed the protagonist to a Romani compatriot selling bags beneath the Eiffel Tower ⬇️

Dreamina also paired the "Short Drama Studio" with a dedicated DreamScript model. Users can chat with this model in the dialog box about creative decisions, instead of just sitting there brainstorming alone.

This model was probably trained on a mountain of web novels, because it really gets scriptwriting. It gave me tons of constructive feedback on my adaptation request.

Alongside this model, Dreamina also built in a bunch of skills related to scriptwriting and storyboarding.

The one I used most was the "Script Doctor."

After generating a script, you can summon this doctor and it'll analyze the script from top to bottom like it's doing homework, then reply with a bunch of Chinese-English mixed jargon that sounds incredibly sophisticated and professional.

I was thoroughly intimidated, so I just changed whatever it told me to change. The final script became: While competitors daily restock with fake bags from Wenzhou, only the Romani dude insists on smashing luxury stores to steal bags, so only his bags are real — wear them with no heartburn.

The logic actually tracks much better this time 👍

The generated video looks like this ⬇️

The overall plot logic basically follows the original video I uploaded.

But specific details were adjusted for overseas contexts and the bag-selling theme. For instance, "make it first" became "steal it first," and "host a banquet" became "throw a party" — all very locally grounded.

I genuinely feel like if you generated a foreign-language version and dropped it on TikTok, it could absolutely deliver some Chinese-style culture shock to unsuspecting foreigners.

And Dreamina's built-in model is genuinely good at writing prompts. Take this continuous zoom shot below — if I were designing it myself, I'd never attempt this, because it would definitely come out as a hot mess.

But Dreamina shares a blanket with Seedance, so it's got the confidence to go big — and the ceiling for final output is correspondingly higher.

Original soup healing original food, as they say 🫡

02

Japanese Seawater Filter Ad

The most god-tier thing about Dreamina's "Short Drama Studio": even if you don't have a script at all, you can still make AI short dramas.

They have a "Remake & Retrace" feature. Just upload an original video, select a retrace style, target country, and aspect ratio, and you can one-click transform a domestic short drama into an overseas-ready version.

*Plenty of styles to choose from

This is wild. People used to say domestic short dramas were a red ocean and overseas short dramas were blue ocean. Now Dreamina's basically installed a connecting pipe between the two — same world, same short drama.

Who would've thought the first step toward rebuilding the Tower of Babel was secretly tasting the Hongguo?

I tested this feature too: I uploaded a viral "seawater filter" mobile game ad from Douyin and had Dreamina remake it into a version suited for Japanese sensibilities.

After uploading, Dreamina automatically analyzes the original's character relationships and plot structure, then localizes the assets.

Everyone gets reincarnated as Japanese, one by one.

Then just one-click generate, and the video is done ⬇️

Let me show the original for comparison ⬇️

Honestly, it might slap even harder than the original 🤣

03

A Million People Playing Bougie in a Dorm

Finally, if you're someone with real creative agency who insists on participating in every step, Dreamina's "Short Drama Studio" leaves an opening for actual professional creators too.

You can use the "Script Creation" feature to upload your own written script, or chat art with Dreamina until you've talked out an original short drama script.

And don't worry about inspiration. The "Short Drama Studio" comes loaded with story templates that make short drama audiences go feral: male-oriented power fantasies, apocalypse, rule-based horror, infinite flow, body swapping, everyone-gets-gamed...

Pick any two or three and shuffle them together and I'm reduced to a single-celled organism.

I didn't have a ready-made script, so I casually pitched an idea: The apocalypse arrives. The protagonist lives in a mega-dormitory with 1 million fellow Shanghainese. They rise to the peak by hoarding coffee beans, pour-over kettles, folding bicycles, and other bougie essentials...

Mainly I wanted to test whether Dreamina could handle the complex shot choreography for a scene with 1 million people living in one massive dormitory.

At first, it didn't handle it well. But fortunately Dreamina has a built-in "3D Director's Desk" — basically a lightweight Blender. I could manually model in there to help the video model understand the scene and effects I wanted.

For instance, there's a scene where someone falls from high up in the dorm. I found a courtyard well reference image online, then AI-generated this model, and manually adjusted character positioning and movement trajectories.

If needed, you can also use various built-in actions.

So theoretically, if you're willing, you can exercise fine-grained control over every shot of an AI short drama right here.

Of course my standards weren't that high, so I mainly just generated from prompts. The final video ⬇️

It's got the vibe. I'd recommend withdrawing all the money you've been spending on short drama app subscriptions and just buying a Dreamina membership instead. Generate whatever you want to watch 🤭

After testing, I can only say Dreamina's integration of Xiao Yunque is genuinely well done. After all, in an era where everything gets reverse-engineered, canvas features have no moat — Agent is what creates differentiation.

Previously, Seedance's model capabilities were already strong enough that Dreamina seemed to have limited room to shine.

Right? You send over a prompt, the model arranges the shots itself and generates a 30-second video. Users easily think, isn't this all Seedance's divine work? Is Dreamina just being a middleman here?

But making an entire short drama is different. How to write the script, how to design characters, where to place the hooks — this is far from something a video model can solve in one go. Only complex, large-scale projects let the application layer reclaim its agency.

So in this context, Xiao Yunque — as a product specializing in short dramas — joining Dreamina as the "Short Drama Studio" is a win for both.

Also, we were always roasting Seedance 2.5 for being too expensive, saying short drama users don't need premium quality. Maybe that view needs revision.

Because even if users can tolerate mediocrity, creators can't tolerate barely surviving: spending a whole day prompting cheap models to get one usable clip destroys you mentally and physically. Better to just use Seedance 2.5 and nail it in one go.

Especially since Dreamina's running a Double Eleven fire sale and offering Seedance 2.5 at the lowest price on the entire internet. There's no reason not to use it.

All I can say is: those canvas-only products better prepare to catch these hands from society 😡
