Rui Han of Gaorong Ventures Named to "36 Under 36" Outstanding Investors List: You Have to See It, and You Have to Dare to Believe It

On September 11, 36Kr released its 2019 36 Under 36 list of outstanding investors. Rui Han, Managing Director at Gaorong Ventures, made the list.
36 Under 36 is a biennial list recognizing both investors and entrepreneurs, designed to identify venture capital professionals who have outpaced their peers. The selection criteria aim to find 36 entrepreneurs who are shaping the world through their vision, ambition, and innovation; and 36 investors whose thinking, execution, and track record far exceed those of their contemporaries.
Rui Han focuses on early and growth-stage investments in new consumer sectors. His leading and participating investment cases include Danke Apartment, Dingdong Maicai, Perfect Diary, Qian Damu, and Grab, among others. He previously worked at the Private Equity Department of China Investment Corporation as a senior investment manager, where he was a founding member of the VC investment strategy team, focusing on direct investments in the TMT sector. Rui Han graduated from Oxford University with a bachelor's and master's degree in Mathematics and Statistics. He was the founding president of the Oxford University Chinese Students and Scholars Association.
36Kr noted that compared to the past decade, the opportunities brought by mobile internet and demographic dividends have faded. Investors now face higher valuations, larger bubbles, and scarcer capital — and must search for rarer possibilities. The goal is no longer to find momentary unicorns, but long-term thoroughbreds: high-value companies that can truly disrupt reality and create the future. In today's environment, becoming an exceptional investor requires continuously capturing opportunities in less-than-ideal conditions, demanding extraordinary alertness, diligence, courage, and resilience.
In an interview with 36Kr, Rui Han said, "For me, VC is Vision + Conviction — you have to see it, and you have to believe in it. Find the patch of land that suits you best, and then slowly cultivate it."
