Ushering in the 2.0 era of cell-based industrialization.

Beijing Huaken Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Huaken Bio"), a global leader in integrated platform solutions for large-scale 3D cell manufacturing, recently announced the successful completion of its Series B+ funding round, raising several hundred million RMB. The round attracted a roster of top-tier investors, including Beijing Biomedical Industry Investment Fund, Beijing New Materials Industry Investment Fund, Gongrong Shunxi Fund, Jingguorui Fund, China Reform Fund, Yuanzhi Capital, CMB International, Chongqing Xiangxinli Fund, Guokang Fund, and Zhongguancun Capital.

Gaorong Ventures co-led Huaken Bio's Series B round in 2022.

Proceeds from this round will primarily fund deeper R&D into cell production systems, expansion of the product portfolio, and upgrades to the company's end-to-end scalable expansion solutions covering the full lifecycle of cell therapies — all aimed at accelerating commercialization and providing solid footing for faster global market expansion.

From Lab to Production Line

Hardcore Technology Driving Industrial Upgrade

In recent years, cell therapy has become one of the most cutting-edge and actively pursued directions in medical research, with related technologies advancing rapidly and clinical demand surging. Building on core 3D microcarrier technology derived from the research of Professor Yanan Du's team at Tsinghua University's School of Biomedical Engineering, Huaken Bio has successfully broken through key bottlenecks and driven industry-wide upgrading.

Over its seven years of operation, Huaken Bio has achieved a transformative leap from laboratory to production line, constructing a "3D Cell Smart Manufacturing Platform" that enables large-scale, automated, intelligent, and fully enclosed production of cell-based therapeutics and derivative products. A single batch can yield billions to tens of billions of cells. With core advantages including controllable costs, high product uniformity, and excellent clinical translation efficiency, the company has become a critical force in advancing cell therapies from R&D to clinical application and ultimately to patients.

Huaken Bio has currently built out nearly 7,000 square meters of R&D and translation facilities alongside 6,000 square meters of GMP manufacturing space. This includes over 1,000 square meters dedicated to its 3D FloTrix® Cell Technology Platform, focused on 3D cell smart manufacturing and microtissue regenerative medicine products. Its microcarrier and culture media additive production lines have annual capacities of 300 kg and 300,000 bottles respectively, providing a solid foundation for sustained innovation and industrial development.

Huaken Bio's One-Stop Solution for Hundred-Billion/Trillion-Cell Smart Manufacturing

From Domestic to Global

Chinese "Smart Manufacturing" Shines on the World Stage

The global biopharmaceutical industry is booming, yet in cell preparation, Western companies have long held dominant positions, leaving China's cell therapy R&D heavily dependent on imported reagents, consumables, and equipment. Leveraging its 3D cell smart manufacturing technology and end-to-end professional guidance, Huaken Bio has assisted multiple global clients in completing clinical trial applications for novel stem cell drugs and securing approvals — and has played a pivotal role in bringing China's first stem cell drug to market.

Huaken Bio's full product portfolio and billion-/trillion-cell preparation processes are deeply embedded throughout this drug's R&D and manufacturing, dramatically improving development and production efficiency and accelerating time-to-market. Notably, the drug is priced at roughly 1/70th of comparable American products — a stark illustration of the massive advantages Huaken Bio's processes deliver in boosting efficiency while slashing consumables, labor, and time costs. As the world's first commercially available stem cell drug employing 3D cell manufacturing technology, it has also opened up an entirely new, more accessible pathway for global stem cell therapy R&D and industrial application.

Huaken Bio is actively executing its "technology export, win-win industry" strategy, showcasing the fresh face of Chinese original biotechnology on the international stage. The company has already established substantive partnerships with clients across more than 20 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, and North America. Going forward, Huaken Bio will use its Singapore overseas headquarters as a pivot point to continue accelerating internationalization, committed to improving CGT therapy accessibility through disruptive technology, empowering global partners, and benefiting patients worldwide.

Dr. Wei Liu, co-founder and CEO of Huaken Bio, stated: "This funding round marks an important milestone for Huaken Bio, signaling the capital market's firm confidence in our industrialization capabilities and commercial prospects. This capital will enable us to accelerate building a more comprehensive 3D cell smart manufacturing platform, deepen our product lineup, and enhance our global supply chain capabilities. We are dedicated to becoming the most trusted 'process engine' for global cell therapy companies, enabling more breakthrough treatments to achieve cost reduction and efficiency gains, thereby benefiting patients worldwide and ushering in a new era of cell industrialization. The development of globally disruptive homegrown original technology relies on the support and companionship of all our investors, and Huaken Bio will continue moving forward steadily with this trust."
