Congratulations on the Establishment of Peking University's School of Computer Science, with Gaorong Ventures Donating to Support Education
On October 24, the School of Computer Science at Peking University was officially established.
On October 24, Peking University formally established its School of Computer Science, with Yang Fuqing — an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Peking University — named honorary dean. This marks the official elevation of the university's computer science program from a department to an independent school.

The newly founded School of Computer Science comprises seven research units: the Institute of Computer Architecture, the Institute of Network and Information Systems, the Institute of Software, the Institute of Computational Linguistics, the Institute of Digital Media, the Center for Energy-Efficient Computing and Applications, and the Frontiers Computing Research Center. The school offers four undergraduate majors — computer science and technology, software engineering, data science and big data technology, and information and computational science — along with two graduate programs in computer science and technology and software engineering.
In her address at the founding ceremony, Academician Yang Fuqing expressed her hope that the school would first and foremost ground itself in fundamental theoretical research, thoroughly understanding the theoretical foundations and technical principles behind bottleneck technologies. She urged the school to target the frontiers of global science and technology, identify major trends, distill scientific problems from the practical challenges facing economic and social development and national security, and achieve breakthroughs in forward-looking basic research and leading original results — while also emphasizing the translation of major fundamental research into industrial applications. "I hope our School of Computer Science can become the important training base for fundamentally innovative academic talent in information science within the new engineering disciplines, as envisioned by the General Secretary."
Yue Bin, founding partner of Gaorong Ventures, is a 1998 alumnus of Peking University's Department of Computer Science and Technology, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. His graduate research at the Network Lab focused on networks and distributed systems. On the occasion of the school's establishment, Gaorong Ventures — as an alumni enterprise — made a donation to Peking University's School of Computer Science to support educational development and advance teaching, research, and talent cultivation.
