White Rhino Makes Its Mark in Shanghai

In early September, the 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) opened in Shanghai. The standout autonomous driving experience event took place along the Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle open test roads and at the Shanghai Jinding Smart City Life Experience Pavilion. White Rhino, a leading name in applying autonomous driving tech to unmanned delivery, was on site and drew crowds of curious visitors eager to try it out.

Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Test Zone Launches

During the same event, the Shanghai Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Test Zone officially opened — the first open autonomous driving test road in a Chinese central urban district, and currently the highest-risk-level open test road in Shanghai. The initial batch covers 12 roads totaling 29.3 kilometers with 57 signalized intersections. With support from the Pudong New Area government, Jinqiao Group and CETC Intelligent jointly established Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Development Co. as the zone's operating body, aiming to build a pioneering benchmark for integrating intelligent connected vehicle industry development with smart city construction, nationally and globally.

According to Yu Lin, General Manager of Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Development Co.: "Going forward, the test zone will leverage Pudong's legislative advantages as a pioneer area for intelligent connected vehicles, and with support from relevant departments, push to open larger areas for testing and develop multiple high-level autonomous driving application scenarios. We'll drive the commercialization of unmanned driving through early pilots and trials; capitalize on being the first mega-city central district test zone to build an autonomous driving cloud control platform for future urban three-dimensional spaces; and draw on our strong automotive manufacturing and information communications industries to cultivate an entirely new industrial ecosystem for future mobility." During the event, Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Development Co. signed on-site partnership agreements with alliance members including White Rhino, Shanghai Mobile, Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute, and CAICT.

White Rhino Named "Best Partner" Twice

On the closing day of the experience event, the inaugural Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Test Zone Smart Mobility Experience Awards ceremony was held. Six awards were presented: Best Cooperative Vehicle-Infrastructure Environment Construction Partner, Best High-Definition Map Partner, Best V2X Application Scenario Partner, Best Autonomous Driving Application Partner, Best Automated Valet Parking Partner, and Best Unmanned Vehicle Equipment Partner. Drawing on its deep track record in unmanned delivery across Shanghai and its standout performance at this event, White Rhino took home two honors: "Best Unmanned Delivery Service Partner" and "Best Unmanned Vehicle Equipment Partner" — further extending its reach in Shanghai and earning broader recognition for its capabilities.

White Rhino in Shanghai: The Future Is Here

Since 2020, White Rhino has operated fully unmanned delivery 14 hours a day, 7 days a week in Shanghai's Jiading District, and has now maintained continuous unmanned delivery for nearly 24 months. In January 2022, White Rhino was selected for the intelligent delivery scenario in the intelligent connected demonstration projects announced by Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission. During Shanghai's COVID lockdown, White Rhino maintained uninterrupted delivery operations and was covered by Xinhua News Agency, Wenhui Daily, and Jiading's official media outlets.
