Linear Capital Leuven Offline Exchange Event — Now Open for Registration!

In late April, Linear Capital's investment team will host an offline startup mixer in Leuven to share the latest updates and insights from China's hard tech investment scene. Harry Wang, Founder and CEO of Linear Capital, along with Partner Songyan Huang and Senior Principal Wei Xin, will attend the event. Entrepreneurs, PhD candidates, postdocs, and researchers are all welcome to apply—whether you're looking to commercialize a research project, exploring a startup idea, or simply curious about China's venture capital landscape, we'd love to meet and exchange ideas with you!

Speaker Bios:

Harry Wang

Founder and CEO of Linear Capital. Focuses on frontier technology projects that solve industrial upgrading challenges. Angel investor in Horizon Robotics, Sensors Data, Tezign, Kujiale, and others. Before founding Linear Capital, Harry was the second Chinese engineer and first Chinese engineering manager at Facebook headquarters, experiences he chronicled in the bestseller The Facebook Effect. After leaving Facebook, he served as CEO advisor to Dianping, Baixing, and CSDN, and has spoken at numerous Chinese tech companies and developer communities. Harry has been repeatedly named "Best Early-Stage Investor" and "Most Founder-Friendly Early-Stage Investor" by media outlets. He is an Aspen Fellow, founding chair of the Future Forum Youth Council, and a 2018 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. Harry graduated from Zhejiang University's Computer Science department and earned his MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

Songyan Huang

Partner at Linear Capital, head of deep tech investing. Has led investments in Agile Robots, Quanying Technology, Hygon, Weijian, Aikenong, and others. He also serves as reviewer for multiple top-tier IEEE journals. Before joining Linear Capital, Songyan worked as a data scientist at Huawei, leading several frontier AI research and application projects. He earned his PhD in machine learning from Zhejiang University's College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering. Songyan has been named to 36Kr's "36 Investors Under 36," Venture50's "40 Investors Under 40," and Jazzyear's "20 Most Insightful Tech Investors of 2021."

Wei Xin

Senior Principal at Linear Capital. Focuses on hardware-software integration and data-enabled industrial sectors. Before joining Linear Capital, Wei worked as a systems lead designer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Innovation Academy for Microsatellites, and did hard tech investing at a venture capital firm. He earned his BE and ME from Harbin Institute of Technology's School of Mechatronics Engineering and the HIT Robotics Institute respectively, and his MBA from Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance.

Requirements:

• STEM background from a top overseas university. Interest in early-stage investing and desire to work on European deal sourcing and investment execution
• Strong curiosity and logical thinking; willing to ask questions repeatedly, with ability to learn quickly and self-motivate
• Keen observational skills and sensitivity; excellent research and data analysis capabilities
• Deep curiosity and digging ability on frontier technologies
• Hardworking, values long-term interests and understands delayed gratification
• Punctual
• Strong communicator
• Speaks up, follows through on commitments, delivers results
• Willing to make mistakes, admit them, correct them, and learn from the process

Nice-to-haves:

• Investment experience not required, but prior tech startup investing experience is a plus
• R&D or PM background at a leading tech company, or having invested in well-known projects in relevant sectors, is a plus
• PhD in broad hard tech fields is an additional plus; candidates with study experience in the base location preferred
