Explore Frontier Tech — Linear Capital's April Delft Offline Meetup Awaits

Last spring, Linear Capital traveled to Europe to visit top universities and tour three major robotics labs and other key innovation platforms. The team experienced cutting-edge research and technology firsthand across the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, while also engaging in discussions with local student organizations and entrepreneurs.

This year, we're heading back. In mid-April, Linear Capital's investment team will host an offline meetup in Delft to share the latest developments and insights from hard tech investing in China. Harry Wang, Founder and CEO of Linear Capital, Partner Songyan Huang, and Senior Principal Wei Xin will attend the event. We welcome PhD students, postdocs, and technical founders to sign up—whether you're looking to commercialize a research project or exploring a startup idea, we'd love to connect and discuss!

Founded in 2014, Linear Capital focuses on "frontier technology + industry" investments: frontier technologies such as data intelligence, digital infrastructure, next-generation robotics, and new technological transformations in traditional sectors (biotech, materials, energy, etc.), applied across vertical industries to dramatically improve efficiency, solve critical pain points, and enable industrial upgrading—generating outsized commercial returns through massive industrial value creation.

Speaker Bios:

Harry Wang

Founder and CEO of Linear Capital. He focuses on frontier technology projects that solve industrial upgrading challenges. He was an angel investor in Horizon Robotics, Sensors Data, Tezign, and Kujiale. Before founding Linear Capital, Harry was the second Chinese engineer and first Chinese engineering manager at Facebook headquarters—an experience he chronicled in his bestseller Building Facebook. After leaving Facebook, he served as CEO advisor to Dianping, Baixing.com, and CSDN, and has spoken at numerous Chinese tech companies and technical communities. Harry has been repeatedly named "Best Early-Stage Investor" and "Most Founder-Friendly Early-Stage Investor" by media outlets. He is an Aspen Fellow, served as the first chair of the Future Forum Youth Council, and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2018. Harry graduated from the Computer Science department at Zhejiang University and earned his MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

Songyan Huang

Partner at Linear Capital, head of deep technology investing. He has led investments in Agile Robots, Quanying Technology, Hefei Core, Weijian, and Aikenong. He also serves as a reviewer for multiple top-tier IEEE journals. Before joining Linear Capital, Songyan worked as a data scientist at Huawei, where he led several frontier AI research and application projects. He earned his PhD in machine learning from the College of Information Science & Electronic Engineering at Zhejiang University. Songyan has been named to 36Kr's "36 Investors Under 36," VentureStar's "40 Investors Under 40," and Jazzyear's "20 Most Insightful Tech Investors of 2021."

Wei Xin

Senior Principal at Linear Capital. He focuses on industry analysis at the intersection of software and hardware, and data-enabled industrial applications. Before joining Linear Capital, Wei worked as a system lead designer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Innovation Academy for Microsatellites, and as a hard tech investor at a venture capital firm. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the School of Mechatronics Engineering and the Robotics Institute at Harbin Institute of Technology, respectively, and his MBA from the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Requirements:

• STEM background from a top overseas university. Interest in early-stage investing, with a desire to source and invest in European projects
• Strong curiosity and logical thinking; willing to ask questions repeatedly, with ability to learn quickly and self-motivate
• Keen observational skills and sensitivity, with excellent research and data analysis capabilities
• Deep curiosity and digging ability regarding frontier technology
• Resilient, long-term oriented, and comfortable with delayed gratification
• Punctual
• Strong communicator
• Willing to speak up, follows through on commitments, delivers results
• Willing to make mistakes, admit them, correct them, and learn in the process

Nice to have:

• Investment experience not required, but prior experience investing in technology startups is a plus
• R&D or PM background at a leading tech company, or track record of investing in well-known projects in relevant sectors
• PhD in hard tech fields is an additional plus; candidates with study experience in the base location preferred
