Recently, Swiss embodied intelligence company RIVR announced a partnership with Just Eat Takeaway.com, Europe's largest food delivery platform, bringing RIVR's fully autonomous delivery robots to the European market.

The robot has a top speed of 15 km/h and can complete deliveries quickly and reliably regardless of weather conditions. It features a 40L insulated cargo compartment with internal dividers to effectively prevent spills, perfectly meeting the demands of large-volume food orders.

Recently, RIVR (formerly Swiss-Mile) announced a new partnership with Just Eat Takeaway.com, one of the world's largest food delivery platforms, to bring RIVR's fully autonomous delivery robots to Europe. The platform was formed in 2019 through the merger of two European delivery giants, Just Eat and Takeaway.com, reaching a total transaction volume of €26.4 billion in 2023 and covering 30 countries worldwide.

The two parties will collaborate to launch a new generation of AI-powered fully autonomous delivery services, first deploying in Zurich, Switzerland. RIVR's wheeled-legged robots have already begun delivering real orders at local restaurants. Later this year, the service will expand to more European cities, with potential entry into broader retail and convenience store sectors.

RIVR's robots are purpose-built for complex urban environments, designed for seamless, efficient delivery. Their unique wheeled-leg hybrid design — with wheels ensuring travel efficiency and leg components enabling easy stair and curb climbing — allows them to effortlessly navigate streets, sidewalks, and building entrances. Driven by Physical AI technology, RIVR robots can perceive and adapt to their surroundings, flexibly avoiding trash bins, lawns, and pedestrians, while safely navigating traffic.

Currently, the robot has a top speed of 15 km/h and can complete deliveries quickly and reliably in rain, snow, or shine. Purpose-designed for food delivery, it features a 40L insulated cargo compartment with internal dividers to effectively prevent spills, perfectly meeting the demands of large-volume food orders.

The handoff process works similarly to parcel delivery: restaurants seal food in the robot's cargo compartment, customers receive a notification upon arrival, and can then unlock the compartment to retrieve their order. Each robot is monitored in real time by RIVR's operations center to ensure system functionality.

Regarding this partnership, Marko Bjelonic, CEO of RIVR, said: "Our collaboration with Just Eat Takeaway.com offers a window into the future — one where automation blends naturally into the urban fabric, helping people access what they need, wherever they are. Physical AI gives robots the ability to understand and adapt to the real world. This is not just a step toward more efficient deliveries; it is a critical milestone toward robots becoming perceptive, safe, and truly human-centric autonomous services."

Zornitsa Chugreeva, Global Senior Director of Innovation at Just Eat Takeaway.com, said: "Our company's vision is to make people's everyday lives easier. Innovation is the driving force behind this vision. It inspires us to continuously explore, test, and integrate new technologies and services, aiming to enhance overall service value and create superior experiences for the entire ecosystem."

RIVR believes that partnering with a European delivery giant like Just Eat Takeaway.com to put the latest technological innovations into practice is deeply meaningful. This also marks a promising beginning to RIVR's story of solving the last-mile delivery challenge.
