Zhejiang University alumni in Zurich — heads up! Linear Capital vs. Zhejiang University Alumni Association Zurich: April meetup now open for registration!

Last spring, Linear Capital traveled to Europe to visit top universities and tour three major robotics labs and other important innovation platforms. We not only experienced firsthand the research and frontier technologies of developed countries like the UK, France, and Germany, but also engaged in extensive exchanges and preliminary discussions with local student organizations and entrepreneurs. In 2024, we will expand our collaboration with university organizations and alumni associations across Europe through a richer variety of formats.

As an investment firm with deep ties to Zhejiang University — many members of our investment team and founders of our portfolio companies are Zhejiang alumni — we are delighted to co-host an offline entrepreneurship exchange with the Zurich Zhejiang University Alumni Association on the afternoon of April 20, local time in Switzerland. We will share the latest insights and developments in China's hard tech investment landscape. Harry Wang, Founder and CEO of Linear Capital (Zhejiang University alumnus); Songyan Huang, Partner (Zhejiang University alumnus); and Senior Director Xin Wei will all attend. Speaker Bios:

Harry Wang

Founder and CEO of Linear Capital, focused on frontier technology projects that solve industrial upgrading challenges. Angel investor in Horizon Robotics, Sensors Data, Tezign, Kujiale, and others. Before founding Linear Capital, Harry was the second Chinese engineer and first Chinese engineering manager at Facebook headquarters, an experience he chronicled in his bestselling book The Making of Facebook. After leaving Facebook, he served as CEO advisor to Dianping, Baixing, and CSDN, and has spoken at numerous Chinese tech companies and technical communities. Harry has been repeatedly named "Best Early-Stage Investor" and "Most Entrepreneur-Friendly Early-Stage Investor" by media outlets. He is an Aspen Fellow, founding chair of the Future Forum Youth Council, and a 2018 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. Harry graduated from the Computer Science department at Zhejiang University and earned his master's degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

Songyan Huang

Partner at Linear Capital, head of deep tech investing. Led investments in Agile Robots, Quanying Technology, HyperAccel, Weijian, Aikennong, and others. He is also a reviewer for multiple top-tier IEEE journals. Before joining Linear Capital, Songyan worked as a data scientist at Huawei, responsible for several frontier AI research and application projects. He earned his PhD in machine learning from the School of Information Science and Electronic Engineering at Zhejiang University. Songyan has been named to 36Kr's "36 Under 36 Outstanding Investors," Venture50's "40 Under 40 Investors," and Jazzyear's "20 Most Visionary Tech Investors of 2021."

Xin Wei

Senior Director at Linear Capital. Focuses on industry analysis at the intersection of hardware and software, and data-enabled industrial applications. Before joining Linear Capital, Xin worked as a system lead designer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Innovation Academy for Microsatellites, and as a hard tech investor at a venture capital firm. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology's School of Mechatronics Engineering and its Robotics Institute respectively, and his MBA from the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Requirements:

• STEM background from a well-known overseas university; interest in early-stage investing and desire to work on European deal sourcing and investment execution
• Strong curiosity and logical thinking; willing to ask questions, and ask again if still unclear; capable of rapid learning and self-motivation
• Keen observational skills and sharp reflexes; excellent research and data analysis capabilities
• Immense curiosity about frontier technology and ability to dig deep
• Willingness to work hard; values long-term benefits and understands delayed gratification
• Strong sense of time
• Good communication skills
• Willing to speak up; follows through on commitments; delivers results
• Daring to make mistakes, courageous in admitting them, capable of correcting them, and learning through the process

Nice to have:

• Investment experience not required, but prior experience investing in tech startups is a plus
• R&D or PM background at a top-tier tech company, or track record of investing in well-known projects in relevant fields
• PhD in hard tech or related fields is an additional plus; candidates with study experience in the target location preferred
