"Too Human for Comfort": Xpeng Motors' IRON Robot Sparks Debate as Embodied Intelligence Blurs Human-Machine Boundaries | Xinxing PORTFOLIO

An embodied intelligence company exploring the future of mobility in the physical AI world, with a global outlook.

At the 2025 Xpeng Tech Day held on November 5, Xpeng Motors completed a significant strategic upgrade, officially repositioning itself as "an explorer of future mobility in the physical AI world, a global embodied intelligence company." Behind this transformation was the simultaneous debut of four core technology products.

A Comprehensive Upgrade of Technical Architecture

Building a Unified AI Foundation

The centerpiece of this release was the second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model, which achieves end-to-end direct generation from visual signals to action commands, eliminating the traditional "language translation" step. This technical breakthrough not only makes vehicle perception and decision-making more precise and efficient — more importantly, it serves as the unified intelligence foundation for Xpeng's three major terminals: automobiles, robots, and flying cars.

Built on Xpeng's self-constructed 30,000-card compute cluster and a 72-billion-parameter foundation model, the system can train on nearly 100 million segments of real driving footage without manual labeling. According to plans, the second-generation VLA will invite pioneer users to experience it by the end of December 2025, with a full rollout to Xpeng Ultra models in Q1 2026.

Three New Product Lines

Expanding the Boundaries of Mobility

Beyond the core model upgrade, Xpeng also announced three specific product directions:

Xpeng Robotaxi

This is China's first full-stack self-developed and mass-produced Robotaxi, with plans to launch three models in 2026 and begin trial operations. It employs a pure vision solution without relying on LiDAR or high-definition maps, and is powered by four self-developed Turing AI chips delivering 3,000 TOPS of compute. Notably, Amap (Gaode) has become its first global ecosystem partner.

All-New IRON Humanoid Robot

A major breakthrough in biomimetic design, featuring a bionic spine, muscle structure, and custom flexible skin, with 22 degrees of freedom in the hands. It also debuts a solid-state battery, with the goal of scaled mass production by the end of 2026. It will first be deployed in commercial scenarios including guided tours, retail assistance, and industrial inspection.

HT Aero Flying Car Dual System

For individual users, the "Land Aircraft Carrier" has received over 7,000 orders, with mass production planned for 2026. For multi-passenger travel, the fully tiltrotor flying car "A868" achieves a range of 500 kilometers and a maximum speed of 360 km/h. Xpeng also announced a partnership with the Dunhuang municipal government to launch the first low-altitude self-driving tourism route in Northwest China in 2026.

The Strategic Leap from Automaker to "Physical AI"

Heart Capital, as a Series A investor in Xpeng Motors, continues to be optimistic about Xpeng's strategic layout in intelligent mobility. This Tech Day made it clear that Xpeng is building a complete mobility ecosystem that extends far beyond automobiles. Through a unified physical AI foundation, the company is developing intelligent driving, Robotaxi, humanoid robots, and low-altitude mobility in concert — redefining itself as a provider of future mobility technology rather than merely a car manufacturer.

Finally, in response to public skepticism about whether the new-generation IRON was real after the launch event, here's a video of He Xiaopeng personally debunking the doubts — truly stunning:

Founded in 2022, Heart Capital is a China-based early-stage venture capital fund focused on technology and digitalization. The team is led by Yan Han, founding partner of Lightspeed China, alongside core investors, a CFO, and seasoned investors from industry backgrounds. The team's past investments include Series A investments in Xpeng Motors (NYSE: XPEV, 09868.HK), Full Truck Alliance (NYSE: YMM), as well as FinVolution (NYSE: FINV), RoboSense (02498.HK), Baichuan, Manman Lengyun (cold chain logistics), Fan Deng Reading, World Logistics, Micro-nano Starspace, LandSpace, Lanhu, and Starfield. Rooted in China with a global outlook, Heart Capital is committed to finding true value in non-consensus. The firm respects the value of "people" and champions the potential of the "heart," looking forward to accompanying more young Chinese entrepreneurs in strengthening China and expanding onto the world stage.
