On May 11, 2016, Cyzone unveiled its "40 Under 40 Investors" list at the 2016 Demo China Spring Summit. This marked the fourth consecutive year that Cyzone Research Center produced the ranking, aimed at helping entrepreneurs identify the most accomplished investors — those with the keenest eye for talent and the greatest ability to help founders create commercial value.

Investors participating in the 2016 selection came primarily from the TMT and biopharmaceutical sectors, with TMT investors accounting for over 90% of the total. The 40 honorees were also predominantly from TMT.

Their track record:

  • Average age: 34
  • Average of 33 deals completed over their careers
  • Average of 16 portfolio companies that secured follow-on funding
  • Average deal volume approaching $200 million
  • Over 30 investors had already reaped substantial returns from exits, typically exceeding $50 million, with the highest reaching into the billions of dollars.

For the 2016 selection, Cyzone focused on investors' investment performance, the value of their portfolio companies, and their individual influence in the venture capital community.

Cyzone Research Center compiled and calculated data from its survey, adjusted for anomalies, and ultimately selected the top 40 from 139 formal candidates. Compared to 2015, the 2016 list featured 67.5% new faces, with 60% making their first appearance on the ranking.

The following data was sampled from 139 candidates across 94 investment firms that participated in this selection:
