A Six-Year Relationship Archive: How Mech-Mind Founder Tianlan Shao Sees Source Code Capital

Source Code Capital and Tianlan Shao became startup partners because of their shared commitment to long-termism.

MaHui member Mech-Mind officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange yesterday.

From co-leading the company's Series B+ round in 2020 to standing by its side ever since, Source Code Capital and Mech-Mind have spent six years together, witnessing what has changed and what hasn't in each other. In the words of Mech-Mind founder Tianlan Shao, we're "startup buddies."

A week before the IPO, we had a somewhat hurried conversation with Shao. When the topic turned to Source Code, he shared plenty of details — some from their very first meeting, others from judgments forged, patience tested, and everyday moments accumulated over six years. We've selected six excerpts to share.

Shao says his deepest insight from the past decade is gaining a genuine, felt understanding of "long-termism." And long-term thinking has always been a value Source Code believes in and holds to. Perhaps this is precisely why the two became "startup buddies" and walked this six-year path together: time ultimately proves which convictions are worth holding.
