Startups still have major opportunities.
On October 14, 2023, the "Insight: Generative AI and Business Innovation" forum was held at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management in Beijing. Attendees included Bo Zhang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and honorary dean of Tsinghua University's Institute for Artificial Intelligence; Chong-En Bai, dean of Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management and Freeman Chair Professor in the Department of Economics; Yingyi Qian, one of Tsinghua University's first group of senior professors in humanities and social sciences and fourth dean of the School of Economics and Management; as well as numerous renowned experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and investors. The forum was hosted by Dr. Yong Wang, director of the Executive Scholar Program and Corporate Development Office at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management. Yi Cao, founding partner of Source Code Capital, was invited to attend and participate in the panel discussion session.
In the panel discussion on "Investment Opportunities and Strategies in Generative AI," Yi Cao joined other institutional investors in an in-depth analysis of investment observations and reflections, opportunities and challenges, and portfolio strategies in the generative AI space.

The rapid development of generative AI is driving a new wave of business transformation and innovation. Cao noted that the market is most looking forward to innovation in the consumer-facing (to C) space, where startups also have significant opportunities. "Although startups may currently have fewer resources and slower model iteration, the market is fluid. Once a super entrepreneur emerges, they could potentially capture 100 or 200 million users within six months to a year, establishing a leading position in their niche."

The forum was organized based on extensive preliminary research. The research team employed multiple methodologies including expert interviews, industry research, enterprise surveys, and case studies. They conducted in-depth interviews and discussions with over 20 prominent experts and scholars in the AI field, heads of leading domestic investment institutions, founders of major model development companies and vertical application enterprises, and generative AI explorers from across the industry. Based on this work, they produced the Generative AI and Business Innovation Research Report, which was released on the day of the forum.
