Source Code Capital announced today that Dr. Hongjiang Zhang, former CTO of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group, president of Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute, and CEO of Kingsoft, has joined the firm as a Venture Partner.
Dr. Zhang is a world-class scientist in multimedia research and a founding pioneer in computer video retrieval. He has received major awards from both IEEE and ACM, the two leading professional computing societies — making him the first and, to date, only Chinese scientist to receive both honors simultaneously.
Dr. Zhang previously served as CTO of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group, president of Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute, and CEO of Kingsoft. He was among the founders of the renowned Microsoft Research Asia, and in 2003 established the Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute (ATC), an organization integrating technology innovation, product development, and research commercialization, which has produced numerous outstanding talents for China's software industry.
Yi Cao, founding partner of Source Code Capital, said: "Dr. Zhang is a top-tier computer scientist and a first-rate business leader. His deep understanding of the information industry, extensive network, and management experience will provide powerful resources and support for Source Code's investments and portfolio services in information technology, particularly in 'Intelligence+' investing."
Since its founding in 2014, Source Code Capital has focused on "Internet+" investments, including: financial internet, industrial internet, service internet, "Intelligence+," and "Global+" innovation sectors. Its portfolio includes financial internet companies such as Qudian, Geshang Wealth, INK Group, Zhirong Group, Suishou, and Cijinrong; industrial internet companies such as Yijiupi, Yimi Dida, Sales Crown Network Technology Co., Ltd., and Ruigu; service e-commerce companies such as Meituan, Lianjia, MOGU, and Kanjia; as well as "Intelligence+" companies such as ByteDance and CHJ Automotive, and "Global+" companies such as Zenjoy and Mybo.
Yi Cao stated that going forward, while continuing to double down on "Internet+," Source Code Capital will increase investments in "Intelligence+," "Global+," and other innovation sectors. At the same time, the firm will continue to attract top global talent, using the best team to help information technology companies create lasting, real value.
