MaKe | Congratulations to Multiple MaHui Members on Making the Forbes China Innovation 50
The Art of Creating Uncertainty and the Art of Responding to It

The 2023 Forbes China Top 50 Innovative Companies list has been released, covering new energy, semiconductors and communications technology, healthcare, medical devices, electric vehicles and their supply chains, cloud computing and AI, robotics, consumer goods and retail, and other sectors. Among them, four MaHui members made the cut: Li Auto, Sunwoda Electronic Co.,Ltd., HAI ROBOTICS, and Cloud Whale. On this year's innovation list, companies in the EV supply chain continued their dominance from last year, while internet companies reemerged as the most imaginative segment. Over the past five years, the Forbes China Top 50 Innovative Companies series has revealed a common pattern: organizations that prioritize R&D investment, operate across multiple markets, and are product-centric are more likely to gain an edge in uncertain environments and fierce market competition. The 2023 Forbes China Top 50 Innovative Companies further underscores this point. Supporting data shows: over 80% of companies significantly increased R&D investment, up roughly 6% from last year; 72% have a meaningful overseas presence, up 4% from last year. Additionally, these innovative companies demonstrated sharper responsiveness to new technologies. Among them, 27 companies actively signaled intentions to integrate their products with AI technology. Changes in R&D investment were a particular focus for Forbes this year. In the inaugural 2017 Forbes China Top 50 Innovative Companies, companies focused on the domestic market and business model innovation accounted for more than half the list. By 2023, model-innovation-led companies made up just 6%. Moreover, against a macro backdrop of unclear global economic expectations compounded by geopolitical impacts, Forbes compared the average R&D spending of the five industries with the largest cash investments in innovation against historical figures — this metric has risen 210% over the past four years, with EV supply chain companies' average R&D investment increasing fivefold in the last three years alone.
