MaHui Spotlight | MaHui Member METiS Pharmaceuticals Closes RMB 400 Million Series D to Help Build Beijing's Biotech "New Engine"

MaHui member METiS Pharmaceuticals recently completed its Series D funding round, and held the OpenCGT platform unveiling and Series D funding announcement on August 1 at the Zhongguancun (Daxing) Cell and Gene Therapy Industrial Park.
The round raised a total of 400 million RMB, led jointly by the Beijing Medical and Health Industry Investment Fund and the Daxing District Industrial Investment Fund. The proceeds will accelerate several strategic priorities for METiS Pharmaceuticals, including platform automation upgrades, advancement of its proprietary product pipeline, deepening international strategic partnerships, and recruitment of top-tier talent.
METiS Pharmaceuticals becomes a pillar enterprise of Beijing's OpenCGT platform for the biomedical industry
Cell and gene therapy (CGT) represents the main frontier of third-generation drug innovation, following small-molecule drugs and antibody-based therapeutics. In 2024, five Beijing government departments including the Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Zhongguancun Administrative Committee jointly issued the "Three-Year Action Plan for Accelerating Innovation and Development of Beijing's Cell and Gene Therapy Industry," which set the target of "cultivating more than 20 frontier CGT technology companies in Beijing by 2027, and accelerating the formation of an internationally influential cell and gene therapy industry cluster."
The newly unveiled METiS Pharmaceuticals OpenCGT technology platform aims to address industry pain points in precision drug delivery, lower development barriers and costs, incubate and empower breakthrough CGT therapy R&D and clinical translation, and help Beijing build a "new engine" for its life and health industry.
Leveraging AI-driven nano-delivery technology innovation, the METiS Pharmaceuticals OpenCGT platform seeks to connect Beijing's top university research capabilities, major tertiary hospital resources, and the full R&D chain of CGT biopharma innovators. The platform has already launched its first project, empowering Accure Therapeutics to develop an mRNA-LNP-based liver-targeted CRISPR gene editing therapy.
