Everything has structure. Our expression of that structure is what we call a "model."

Over the past few centuries, human understanding of "models" has continually evolved — broadly divided into the Old Three Theories and the New Three Theories. The Old Three Theories are systems theory, cybernetics, and information theory. The New Three Theories are dissipative structure theory, catastrophe theory, and synergetics. The former views a system as a closed structure, attempting to define the whole through inputs and outputs, then define individuals through functions, and finally describe the relationship between individuals and the whole. It is precise. It is clear. The latter sees a system as an open structure, where individuals form a whole through synergy, and this whole exhibits new will and characteristics, evolving and even mutating as new individuals join. It is dynamic. It is fuzzy.

The system described by the Old Three Theories is more like a precision machine, a tight organization — the foundation of the industrial age, the product of specialized division of labor. The system described by the New Three Theories is more like an open life form, a collaborative organization — the foundation of the information age, the product of co-evolution.

Is everything a machine or a life form?

In fact, most of our troubles come from viewing the world through the lens of the Old Three Theories: relationships, venture capital, careers. All of them.

If a relationship is a precision machine, then there are inputs and outputs, expectations and feedback. Suddenly one day the feedback doesn't match the expectation — a friend can't make it, a promised thing doesn't materialize — and the machine is broken. Then you fall into the pain of fixing it or abandoning it.

If venture capital is a precision machine, then there are goals and results, inputs and outputs. Suddenly one day the structure doesn't align with the goal — growth slows this month, or the team bleeds out. Then you fall into the agony of whether to bridge or quit.

But they are all life forms.

If it is a life form, it has birth, aging, sickness, and death; formation, existence, decay, and emptiness. You wouldn't hesitate to abandon a child because they are sick, nor would you quietly distance yourself because they encounter problems. On the contrary, you might even hope they experience more setbacks, more pressure — for then they may mature earlier, become more vital.

Relationships, venture capital — if you see them as dynamic, changing, cyclical life forms, you will have far less anguish and inner conflict. Instead, you will bring enormous patience to grow, collaborate, and explore together.

All things are thus. So is Oasis.

Responsibilities

• Sourcing and mapping: systematically and continuously mapping industries or sectors assigned by senior team members, scanning for investment opportunities
• Analysis and research: researching investment opportunities to provide effective information and analysis for investment decisions
• Due diligence and execution: participating in full-cycle project due diligence, contributing to evaluation and discussion of investment thesis and value, and preparing investment memos
• Portfolio tracking and monitoring: continuously tracking portfolio company operations; staying updated on portfolio companies, industries, sectors, and trends
