Recommend a website — the kind that actually has a URL.

Hi everyone. Today I want to introduce a website: the Oasis Capital homepage.

Actually, this site has existed for quite a while. Back then, there was no "Oasis," and it wasn't even a "website."

It was an IP address pointing to a database.

Early on, while researching demographic structures, we came across the U.S. Census Bureau's database — a collection of global population data that was comprehensive and internally consistent.

This data became a crucial foundation for our team's research. But as U.S.-China relations shifted, the site grew harder to access and the data loaded slower and slower.

Being a bunch of STEM guys, we just... well... and then... and then...

Finally, we had a mirrored database onshore.

That was the origin of our population database. We later added substantial data from other countries, especially Japan. This was the predecessor of the Oasis homepage, and it looked like this:

For Oasis USD Fund I, we were honored to earn the trust of many offshore institutional investors. In return, we needed to meet greater compliance requirements. One of them: "You need to have a website."

For the longest time, we've believed Oasis is an open-source system. At its foundation is a database. The middle layer is methodology. "Thematic Approach" is simply an algorithm — one that ultimately discovers, connects with, and celebrates the most vital entrepreneurs China will produce over the next decade. And these entrepreneurs unfold within their era; that era is Oasis.

We believe the ode to vitality is the ultimate humanistic care of this age.

We submitted our database for approval. Told it wasn't compliant. "A website needs a URL." So we bought a domain, pointed it to the IP address, and designed a landing page. It looked like this:

Still didn't pass — no fund information. After much deliberation, we decided to build a proper website. From the first version on the left to the Nth version on the right, the goal was simple, simpler, simplest. Because we believe true beauty must be unadorned.

But the team still felt it wasn't simple enough, because I insisted the "LOGIN" button stay on the homepage. This was a database, after all. Deadlock. Then Oasis's chief aesthetics advisor slapped the table and said: "If you truly believe in the system, you shouldn't be fixated on whether there's a button on the homepage."

So we arrived at what you see now.

This is only the beginning. Oasis will keep iterating, keep growing — into a database without a URL, the kind with a "LOGIN" button on the homepage.
