Recently, Oasis portfolio company Spirit AI deepened its partnership with CATL to build the world's first scaled humanoid embodied-intelligent robot deployment on a new-energy power battery PACK production line, which has officially gone into operation at CATL's Zhongzhou base.

The humanoid robot "Xiaomo" can now precisely perform complex tasks such as battery connector plug insertion, marking a milestone breakthrough for embodied intelligence in smart manufacturing.

The EOL and DCR processes that Xiaomo replaces represent the final functional testing stage before battery packs come off the line. Characterized by "multiple varieties, small batches, and high flexibility," this stage has long relied on manual labor. Workers must precisely insert test plugs carrying several hundred volts into designated positions on the battery pack — a process that carries risks of high-voltage arcing, along with inconsistent efficiency and quality.

Xiaomo's introduction has fundamentally changed this situation. Equipped with an advanced end-to-end vision-language-action (VLA) model, it possesses powerful environmental perception and task generalization capabilities:

  • Precise adaptation: Autonomously handles uncertainties such as incoming material position deviations and connector point variations, adjusting its operating posture in real time;
  • Flexible manipulation: Dynamically modulates force when inserting and removing flexible wiring harnesses, ensuring reliable connections without damaging components;
  • High efficiency and reliability: In actual operation, its insertion success rate remains stable above 99%, with operating cadence matching that of skilled human workers.

Today, Xiaomo has become an indispensable member of the production line. It can autonomously detect wiring harness connection status, immediately flagging anomalies to effectively reduce the defect rate, and proactively switches to inspection mode during idle periods. Faced with continuous production tasks across multiple battery models, its daily workload has tripled, with exceptional consistency and stability.

The robot "Xiaomo," developed by Spirit AI, is powered by CATL's self-developed batteries — demonstrating the ultimate outcome of industrial chain collaboration as a CATL ecosystem company. To translate real-world scenario requirements into engineering specifications, CATL collaborated with multiple departments to conduct in-depth production line research, jointly formulating a development plan that balances forward-looking vision with practical feasibility, laying the groundwork for scaled deployment of embodied-intelligent robots.

Going forward, CATL will use Xiaomo's successful deployment as a starting point to comprehensively elevate the automation and intelligence levels of its PACK lines, continuously deepening the industrial synergy between smart manufacturing and green power, promoting broader application of embodied-intelligence large models across more scenarios, and contributing to the achievement of global carbon-neutrality goals.
