OMOWAY, an emerging smart electric motorcycle brand, recently raised tens of millions of dollars in seed and angel rounds. Its first smart electric motorcycle made its global debut in Jakarta, Indonesia on June 20, drawing significant industry attention.

OMOWAY marks the first venture of He Tao, former co-founder of XPeng, since his departure from the company. The project has attracted market interest since its inception. The funding round was led by ZhenFund, HSG, and Huiyou Capital, with He Tao and core team members also investing. The new capital will accelerate mass production of the world's first full-stack self-developed smart motorcycle and deepen its localized strategy in Southeast Asia.

Zhiliang He, investment manager at ZhenFund, stated that He Tao and his team were co-founders and core members of XPeng, having witnessed and driven the transformation of China's new energy vehicle industry. Now, armed with a decade of accumulated experience and forward-looking insights into future mobility, they have turned to Southeast Asia to lead the electrification and intelligent revolution of the motorcycle industry. ZhenFund was fortunate to participate deeply from OMOWAY's earliest days, not only helping refine the company's direction but also introducing several key members to the team. Founded in 2024 by XPeng co-founder He Tao and former XPeng VP Jiao Qingchun, OMOWAY has assembled top talent across automotive intelligent driving, motorcycle manufacturing, and two-wheeled electric vehicles. The team includes Xia Zhiguang, XPeng's 10th employee and former autonomous driving lead; Zhang Lihua, former director of XPeng's design center and lead designer of the XPeng P7; former XPeng software and hardware leads; and the former head of VIVO Indonesia to lead market expansion there.

At the brand launch in Jakarta, Indonesia, OMOWAY demonstrated its first prototype, the OMO X, equipped with an intelligent assisted driving system. The OMO X entered the stage autonomously from off-site in full self-driving mode, vividly showcasing the team's breakthrough in migrating automotive-grade intelligent driving technology to motorcycle mobility through a live scenario demonstration.

Intelligent Disruption: Led by the former XPeng autonomous driving and software/hardware leads, OMOWAY has built an entirely self-developed HALO full-domain intelligent development architecture to transplant automotive intelligent driving technology to motorcycles. Its self-developed HALO Pilot, based on vision and motorcycle self-balancing systems, keeps the vehicle stable during low-speed congestion while offering ACC adaptive cruise control, one-touch parking, one-touch summon, and other intelligent driving features for a car-like convenient riding experience. The dedicated HALO Link smart connectivity system redefines intelligent connection: automotive-grade information security, digital key "seamless unlocking and remote authorization," and automotive-grade V2X connect technology. A 10.25-inch smart vehicle display integrates real-time navigation and charging station information, eliminating the safety hazard of phone mounts; real-time vehicle status reporting enables worry-free travel; and vehicle-to-vehicle connectivity supports real-time group riding with instant route sharing.

Elevated Safety: Empowered by comprehensive perception, intelligent decision-making, and precise control capabilities, HALO Pilot features hyper-perception algorithms and AI big data models for real-time monitoring of complex riding environments. It also brings automotive-grade active safety features to two-wheelers, with multi-directional collision warnings and the industry's first CAB (Collision Assist Braking) function for all-around riding safety protection. When a rider, distracted or fatigued, fails to brake in time and cannot respond to collision warnings, CAB intervenes promptly with low-G active braking, alerting the rider through physical feedback while reducing speed to minimize collision impact.

Fashionable Versatility: Designed by the former XPeng P7 styling director, it skillfully blends automotive fluid aesthetics with futuristic design elements to create a fashion-forward, transformable smart electric motorcycle. Its pioneering adaptive design allows seamless switching among three practical configurations — scooter, standard, and touring — making it equally suited for urban commuting, short rides, or long-distance travel, redefining the benchmark for two-wheeled aesthetics.

As the world's third-largest motorcycle market, Indonesia has over 120 million motorcycles in circulation — roughly one for every two people — demonstrating deep market foundations. In 2024, annual motorcycle sales in Indonesia exceeded 6.3 million units, with electric motorcycle sales achieving staggering growth of nearly 400% driven by government "fuel-to-electric" policies, showcasing powerful transformation momentum. This market vitality extends beyond Indonesia to the entire Southeast Asian region, where motorcycle ownership reaches 250 million units, with Indonesia contributing nearly half. Meanwhile, Southeast Asia's massive young population provides uniquely fertile ground for smart technology products. Based on these advantages, OMOWAY has selected Indonesia as the launchpad for its global strategy, aiming to use this core market as leverage to initiate the global motorcycle 3.0 era through its market scale, electrification transformation trend, and young consumer base.

We innovated battery placement for Southeast Asia's high-temperature, rainy environment; optimized seat height and load capacity based on local riding habits. OMOWAY's first mass-production smart electric motorcycle model will be unveiled in the second half of this year and go on sale in Indonesia in 2026.
