Today, We Decided to Release the ZhenFund Portfolio Companies Recruitment Handbook

Perhaps the best way to learn is to start a company or join a startup.

In 2020, Yuan Liu, managing partner at ZhenFund, read through the resumes of several thousand applicants and made hundreds of phone calls. After this intense exposure to so many young people, he wrote a letter titled To Those Even Younger, hoping to share some reflections with everyone still hesitating over their next step.

In the letter, he wrote that finding what genuinely interests you may matter more than entering a "prestigious" industry. Not caring about what most people choose, and being willing to take the road less traveled — that's what makes a person truly distinctive.

The young people who stood out from those thousands of resumes shared something in common: at life's pivotal moments, they chose what they most wanted to do, followed their interests, and in doing so gained perspectives and abilities different from everyone else's.

Six years have passed, and much has changed, but the questions that letter raised are still echoing.

It's once again the fall recruiting season, and many young people are choosing their first job — and starting to think about a question: What kind of people do I want to work with, and what kind of things do I want to do?

So we published the ZhenFund Portfolio Recruiting Handbook.

We wanted to compile the startups ZhenFund has backed over the years and the new opportunities taking shape at them, for young people who are sensitive to change and serious about thinking through their futures. We hope that when you're looking for a team worth committing to, this handbook can offer one more option.

This handbook includes hundreds of positions from ZhenFund portfolio companies, spanning industries and fields including AI, Embodied Artificial Intelligence, smart hardware, chips, consumer, and gaming.

Many former ZhenFund employees and interns later joined startups, or founded companies of their own.

To this day, ZhenFund still encourages outstanding young people to join a startup. Many unicorns were founded just a few years ago and are still in the early stages of rapid growth, with enormous room for young people to create. These companies often need talented young people more urgently than big companies do. And in a young team with high talent density, you're more likely to meet your own kind.

Of course, joining a still-"young" startup means facing more uncertainty. But your twenties may also be the best time in life to go on an adventure.

Looking back at wave after wave of technological change, so much of it happened at the moment a startup disrupted an incumbent and young people jumped in.

Today, one of the best ways to learn may be to start a company or join one.

Q: How do I apply for positions in the handbook?

A: Once you've found a company and position you're interested in, click the application link at the top of the recruiting handbook to apply directly, and enter the company and position name in the targeted application field (you can apply for multiple positions at once). You're also welcome to subscribe to the recruiting handbook and join our Lark group to get timely updates on new openings.

Q: What happens after I apply?

A: After you apply, we'll recommend you directly to the portfolio company based on your targeted application. All subsequent resume screening, interview scheduling, and hiring decisions are handled independently by each company.

Q: What if I don't see a suitable opportunity in the handbook right now — can I still apply?

A: Of course. If you want to join a startup but haven't found a specific position yet, you can select "no targeted position" in the form and join the ZhenFund portfolio talent pool directly. When a suitable match comes up, we'll get your consent first, then help connect you with the company.
