Qiming ESG | Crafting a New Future from Plastic Waste — Qiming Venture Partners Hosts Upcycling Workshop
This initiative aligns closely with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a hybrid format combining hands-on practice and educational outreach, employees gain immersive understanding of the value of circular economy principles — giving discarded materials a "second life."

Recently, Qiming Venture Partners held a discarded plastic upcycling handicraft workshop at its Beijing and Shanghai offices. The event closely aligned with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), combining hands-on practice with educational sessions to help employees understand the value of circular economy through immersive experiences — giving waste materials a "second life."
Plastic pollution has become an urgent global environmental and health issue. A research report published earlier by The Lancet in the United Kingdom found that plastic pollution poses an "increasingly severe yet insufficiently recognized threat" to human health, causing health-related economic losses of at least $1.5 trillion annually.
At the event, employees gathered at the plastic regeneration workshop to creatively repurpose everyday office waste — plastic bottles, packaging shells, and other discarded materials. Through multiple professional mechanical recycling processes — sorting, cleaning, shredding, and melting — plastic waste that might otherwise have been landfilled or incinerated was transformed into functional and commemorative eco-friendly cultural products. Employees put low-carbon principles into action, achieving a deep integration of creativity and environmental protection.

During the event, a professional team also delivered a themed presentation titled The Past and Present Lives of Plastic for Qiming Venture Partners employees, covering the lifecycle of plastics and recycling technologies. This helped employees recognize the heavy burden plastics place on ecosystems and deepened their understanding of the connection between ecological protection and sustainable lifestyles.
