Qiming Venture Partners Portfolio Company WeRide's W5 Driverless Logistics Vehicle Approved for Road Testing Across Guangzhou's Huangpu District

Recently, Qiming Venture Partners portfolio company WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD) officially announced that it has obtained the first batch of unmanned vehicle road test licenses in Guangzhou's Huangpu District. Its autonomous logistics vehicle, the Robovan W5 (hereinafter referred to as the "W5 unmanned logistics vehicle"), has commenced road testing across the entire district.

At the same time, the WeRide W5 unmanned logistics vehicle received the license plate "穗S·F0001试" (Sui S·F0001 Test), making it the first approved unmanned logistics vehicle on the road in Huangpu District. Currently, WeRide is the first and only "licensed enterprise" in the district.

This marks the second district-wide license for the WeRide W5 unmanned logistics vehicle in Guangzhou, following the road test license obtained in Nansha District this April. The expanding operational footprint signals WeRide's accelerating progress toward large-scale commercialization of autonomous logistics vehicles.

On June 6 this year, Guangzhou Development District and Huangpu District issued the Several Policy Measures to Support the High-Quality Development of the Intelligent Connected and New Energy Vehicle Industry in Guangzhou Development District and Huangpu District, emphasizing the need to strengthen large-scale autonomous driving applications and promote the deployment of intelligent connected vehicles in shared mobility, sanitation, smart logistics, and other scenarios in a phased, domain-specific, and level-specific manner. Leveraging its technological leadership and deep operational experience in the autonomous driving field, WeRide received approval for district-wide road testing of unmanned logistics vehicles in Huangpu District less than a month after the policy's release.

The WeRide W5 unmanned logistics vehicle is purpose-built for high-frequency urban logistics scenarios. It boasts the largest cargo capacity in its class at 5.5 m³, a maximum payload of 1,000 kg, and a top range of 220 km. The W5's cargo space features a modular design that supports multiple compartment configurations, flexibly adapting to different loading requirements across express delivery, community distribution, and customized point-to-point logistics scenarios — enabling customers to handle multi-scenario delivery needs through a single solution.

Operating on urban roads, safety is paramount. The W5 unmanned logistics vehicle features industry-leading L4 autonomous driving capabilities, equipped with WeRide's self-developed redundant sensor suite that accurately identifies vehicles, traffic signals, pedestrians, and other road users — achieving 360-degree blind-spot-free, all-weather, all-day precise perception. Additionally, the W5 comes standard with redundant drive-by-wire chassis, emergency braking systems, collision warning systems, driving status monitoring, and cloud-based control platforms — multiple safety protection mechanisms that provide robust and reliable security for every delivery.
