Qiming Venture Partners Portfolio Company WeRide Deepens Strategic Partnership with Tencent Cloud to Expand Robotaxi Commercial Operations and Overseas Markets
WeRide and Tencent Cloud will deepen their integration of strengths to jointly build a new generation of data-driven autonomous driving cloud platforms, connecting the full R&D, testing, and operations workflow to create an innovation flywheel for autonomous driving and accelerate the scaled commercialization of Robotaxi and other autonomous driving products.
Recently, WeRide (NASDAQ:WRD), a portfolio company of Qiming Venture Partners, signed a strategic partnership agreement with Tencent Cloud to deepen their collaboration, further advancing long-term cooperation in the scaled commercial operation of Robotaxi, intelligent driving technology R&D, and overseas market expansion.
Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly advance the scaled commercial operation of L4 autonomous driving Robotaxi, integrating WeRide's Robotaxi service into WeChat's "Mobility" service, Tencent Maps, and other applications — bringing users a safer, more convenient, and more comfortable autonomous mobility experience. Tencent will also provide cloud and mapping data services to support WeRide's technology R&D and commercial operations for Robotaxi.
With an eye toward global expansion, the two parties will jointly build intelligent driving solutions for overseas markets. Leveraging its global cloud infrastructure and operational experience, Tencent Cloud will provide WeRide with locally compliant cloud services overseas, establishing an efficient and stable intelligent driving operations network. Building on this, WeRide — which already holds first-mover advantages in numerous international markets — will accelerate the scaled commercial deployment of its various autonomous driving products globally.
The two parties will also deeply collaborate on building a "cloud-map integrated" data-driven platform and tools, alongside developing full-process data compliance solutions, to accelerate intelligent driving technology R&D and mass production deployment.
In April 2024, WeRide and Tencent Cloud signed a strategic partnership agreement to pursue deep technical integration in areas such as autonomous driving cloud platforms, jointly creating leading advanced driver-assistance solutions and collaborating to advance the intelligent transformation of global OEM and Tier 1 customers. Following initial validation, the two parties have established substantive cooperation in cloud computing, SD map data services, and compliance services, achieving a series of notable results. Supported by Tencent's compliant cloud and SD map data, WeRide partnered with Bosch Group to achieve a record-breaking 18-month cycle for mass production deployment of its ADAS solution.
This upgraded strategic partnership, which broadens and deepens the scope of collaboration, will once again lead the global scaled commercialization of intelligent driving solutions.
