Abogen

Abogen Biosciences (艾博生物) is a Suzhou-based biotech company founded in early 2019 that specializes in messenger RNA (mRNA) drug development, with proprietary mRNA and nano-delivery technology platforms covering infectious disease vaccines and tumor immunotherapy . The company gained early prominence for developing China's first mRNA COVID-19 vaccine to receive clinical trial approval, in collaboration with the Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Walvax Biotechnology .

In 2021, Abogen raised over $700 million in a Series C round in August with participation from Gaorong Ventures, followed by a $300 million Series C+ round in November co-led by SoftBank Vision Fund and existing shareholder 5Y Capital . 5Y Capital's director Jing Xutian described mRNA as potentially "the next 'killer'-level application in tech" at the time .

The company has since advanced its pipeline beyond COVID-19: in June 2023, its first tumor therapeutic mRNA drug ABO2011 received clinical trial approval in China , and by May 2025 it secured FDA IND approval for a multi-KRAS mutation mRNA cancer vaccine—described in 5Y Capital's coverage as marking Abogen's arrival among global leaders in tumor immunotherapy .
