Bank of China is one of China's major state-owned commercial banks, with a presence in the country's venture capital ecosystem through partnerships and executive placements. Per a 2018 FreeS Capital report, it was among the financial institutions that struck strategic partnerships with Huasheng Haoche, an auto new-retail startup, to develop rental installment products . The bank also appears in talent flows into VC: FreeS Capital partner Shen Ying, who joined the firm after seven years at Bank of China New York focused on cross-border M&A and project finance, drew on that background for the firm's U.S. consumer research . More recently, as of early 2024, Bank of China entered a strategic partnership with XtalPi, an AI drug-discovery company .
